Some leaders know that people are their greatest natural resource and that they like to be treated with respect, care and dignity. And this is why situational approach, in this case, plays an important role in terms of leadership. Different situation present certain challenges and fitting the right employee into the right role based on their individual talents. And it can help a group get through hardships they might face. Nevertheless, it is highly important for a leader to develop his or her style due to different situations. I have seen many instances where situational approach benefits a leader, both from my personal experience and my friend’s stories. One summer I worked as an assistant at a Biotech company, my boss would tell me every single task she wanted me to do without explaining the details. The tasks she asked me were unclear and I did not know what to do to satisfy her expectations. I was not very confident on my work performance because I never knew what exactly she wanted to see of my work. Even though the work environment and pace was really relaxing and stress-free, my boss was never clear on her expectations on me and my performance. It was supportive because the environment was good and not overwhelming at all but only sometimes directive, or even low directive. Just like the video we watched in Lesson 5. Therefore, it is certainly true that different workers suit different approach in different situations. It is very important as well to adapt to anything as it benefits leader’s ability in many ways. Especially with the fact that the society is constantly evolving. If a leader knows how to deal with group in a new circumstance by adapting to new situations every time, he or she is very likely to succeed.
