Defining Leadership
For my opening post, I would like to discuss the importance of a diverse exposure in powerful and authoritative leadership. Leadership in not only narrowed to the workplace but all throughout society as well. I believe learning about workplace leadership is important for the development one’s career moving forward, but I find looking at leadership through a controversial political lens to be more interesting. In the VICE short documentary, The Rise Of Sweden’s Far-Left Militants , leaders of a left wing political group called “The Revolutionary Front” have organized to combat the far right views of Sweden’s Nationalist party. The Nationalist believe in a pure Swedish society and want to drive out all of those who seek exile in Sweden or have recently filed for citizenship. The leadership displayed in the documentary is clearly passion driven, and those who have found themselves in a leadership position on both the right and left wing parties must take care in concealing their identities in order to protect themselves from extreme acts of violence. Though this differs from a workplace setting completely, passionate leaders exist in all areas of life. Whether it be an executive who wants best for the share holders and the company’s employees, or those who are trying to rid their nation of racist/nationalistic views that can harm their society. I had no intention on straying away from the course material, but found this documentary interesting, and enjoyed hearing the views of the leaders of the left wing party. They believe the middle class has built this nation, and deserve to their right to be passionate about their views. Passion in leadership cannot be taught in a scientific manner, and much experience is needed to reach a level of passion that was displayed in this short film. Much can be learned from those who have led with an intense disposition. Though I would not suggest throwing smoke grenades and trashing advisories houses, I believe in leadership that is not afraid to take it to the next level. I hope to be a leader of something I care so much about it completely absorbs me. I saw it in the left wing leadership, and I see traces of that passion in myself (but in a non violent way).
