Liberal Arts Scholarship and Technology Summit

poster for LASTS summitThe Liberal Arts Scholarship and Technology Summit 2013 (LASTS) will be held on August 14–15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Pattee Library and Paterno Library. It will give faculty, graduate students and undergraduates in the liberal arts an opportunity to collaborate with other scholars at the intersection of the humanities and technology to explore through presentations, panel sessions, workshops and lightning talks:

•Digital Research Tools and Methods,
•Digital Pedagogy,
•Digital Publishing and Scholarly Communication and
•Digital Scholarly Workflow.

The keynote speaker for the summit is Trevor Muñoz, associate director, Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities (MITH) and assistant dean for Digital Humanities Research at the University of Maryland Libraries. In his website, Muñoz notes, “Framing digital humanities in libraries as a service to be provided and consequently centering the focus of the discussion on faculty members or others outside the library seem likely to stall rather than foster libraries engagement with digital humanities. I want digital humanities work in libraries that is innovative and iterative but that contributes back to the mission of (academic) libraries.” Muñoz states that the MITH-University Libraries Digital Humanities Incubator provides a local effort to make that happen.

Although there is no cost to attend the summit, pre-registration is required and lunch will be included. See sites.psu.edu/lasts2013/

The summit is sponsored by the College of the Liberal Arts, the University Libraries, and Education Technology Services.
