CKI Service Week = Success

In the past, Penn State Circle K has not participated in CKI Service Week but we decided that it was not too late to start! With so many possible projects to choose from, it took us awhile to narrow them down. Members of Circle K have started off strong by helping out at Second Mile’s Spring Festival on Sunday. At our Tuesday meeting, we made cards for NICU (neonatal intensive-care unit) parents to incorporate our service partner March of Dimes. To end the week, we kicked off our annual Food Bank Drive Bag Drop on Friday. Volunteers walked around off campus neighborhoods and left paper bags at residents’ doors. The residents are asked to fill the bag with non-perishable food and clothing items that they’d like to donate and we came back to collect them the next week. Last semester, this drive was very successful. We were able to donate over 448 pounds of food to our local food bank as well as 40 overflowing bags of clothes to Goodwill. We were glad to support our service partners throughout the week but even more excited by the idea of being a part of Kiwanis One Day. Our club volunteered at Penn State’s Arboretum and we invited our local K-family clubs to join us. We worked with members of Key Club, Aktion Club, and Kiwanis on this project. It was a great way to connect with other people in the community and around campus that have the same passion as Penn State Circle K members. We can’t wait to participate in this international event again next year!

Live to Serve, Love to Serve!

  1. All of these service week events sound awesome. I especially like the Food Bank Drive Bag Drop event–that is a really creative way to get community support and meet your neighbors.
