Community Building

Cory Trimm recently shared an article with me on community building.  It’s from a business perspective, but I wonder if and how these ideas are applicable to service organizations here at Penn State.  Last week at the Council meeting, we talked about best practices in recruitment and retention for our organizations.  Do the ideas about community building from this article help us think differently about building our organizations?

Post any thoughts in the comments.

  1. I thought the article was very interesting, especially if we do apply some of kawasaki’s ideas about assigning one person specifically to community building(which is something I think we might do for Habitat), and then the “welcome criticism” and “foster discourse” topics. Engaging our club members and asking them what they want out of/or should be changed within THEIR club I think is very important. Obviously, we as leaders cannot do everything that everyone wants, but it never hurts just to step back and listen.
