Giving Thanks for Service

I find it fitting on Thanksgiving to give thanks for all that this year has offered me thus far.  I am very thankful for becoming involved in Lionhearts and becoming closer to all those involved.  I am learning much from attending meetings and talking with everyone.  It is truly an enjoyment for me to come to meetings on Fridays and relax by discussing all the great things all of our organizations are doing, as well as what more we can do to improve our campus and community.

The main focus of Circle K is to build service, leadership, and fellowship in its members to better the community and campus.  Here in State College, we are working together with our Kiwanis family, including K-Kids, Aktion Club, Builders Club, Key Club, and Kiwanis to make a difference wherever possible.

I have the privilege of serving Circle K as Vice President for the 2011-2012 term, as well as representing Circle K on the Council of Lionhearts.  As a student leader at Penn State, Council has enlightened me on how much of an impact a club and an individual can have.  I find myself leaving every meeting with revived motivation and a sense of self satisfaction in the ways we all are helping the campus and community.  My passion and commitment to service is something that I try to share with the members of Circle K.  Through the Council of Lionhearts, I have also learned that as a student leader at Penn State I have a responsibility of being a role model for other to emulate.  Every leader on Council is sharing their passion for service with the students of Penn State.

Through the Council of Lionhearts Penn State service organizations are provided with countless opportunities for bettering themselves and their clubs.  This is through service projects, brain storming sessions, self reflections, and much more.  Council provides a unified outlet for all the service organizations to become stronger by sharing ideas.  In my opinion, it is this unified nature of Lionhearts that amplifies service at Penn State.  All of the clubs that are encompassed by the Council of Lionhearts are passionate about one unified goal: the betterment of others.  Although the betterment of other is done in a variety of ways, Council provides a single outlet that is focused on this unified goal.  It is this single goal that we as individuals and organizations within Council look to expand upon.  We are building off of this common idea, and are striving to make service at Penn State stronger than it has ever been.

Lastly, I would like to thank the Council of Lionhearts for helping me grow as an individual this year.  Through attending meetings I feel that my commitment to service has been strengthened.  It is enjoyable for me to have meaningful discussions with individuals who, in my opinion, are some of the best at Penn State.  I never feel self conscious or timid about sharing thoughts or ideas to the group, and everyone seems to be comfortable around one another.  This bond formed through the Council of Lionhearts is how service will become an even larger part of Penn State in the future.
