Start the year off with Service

The start of a new academic year brings a lot of excitement. Friends are back, football season is starting and the aspirations of a fresh start, even if this is your senior year. A great way to harness that excitement and create something wonderful is through community service. Don’t know how to get started? A great place to start is volunteer.psu.edu. There are plenty of opportunities to help out on campus and in the community. A few examples are the multitude of blood drives hosted by the Student Red Cross Club, recycling at the football game against Navy, and a personal favorite, Friday Night Lights Out with Student United Way or Alpha Phi Omega. That first service project will open your eyes to the abundance of service opportunities here in Centre County. For any freshman, Fresh Start is a great way to meet some new people as well as participating in a service project early. So take the time to give service a chance, you may be surprised by what you find at the project and what you find in yourself.
