Add These Things to Your To-Do List This Semester.
Congratulations! You have officially made it to week three of college. On that note, if you haven’t realized already, time really does fly when you’re having fun. The semester is already underway, so here are some things to do before getting snowed in all winter:
- Hike Mount Nittany.
A Penn State must. With the weather at the perfect transition phase between hot, sticky summer humidity and chilly winter, the next few weeks is the perfect window to head over to one of the most beautiful places in Happy Valley. Grab a group of friends, or just go on your own as an awesome study break or Sunday afternoon adventure.
2. Check out the Farmer’s Market.
The Friday Farmer’s Market is hands-down one of my favorite things about fall at PSU. It takes place every Friday from 11 to 5:30- perfect for that awkward window between classes or a stop on the way back to your dorm at the end of the day! Stop by and browse the wide assortment of goodies, from fresh flowers for your desk or homemade mini-pies to freshly made tortilla chips and guac!
3. Hang Outside.
The winter here in Happy Valley can be pretty brutal at times, so make sure you soak up the awesome fall weather while it lasts! Rather than going to the library to do homework or highlight your textbooks, head outside to cram or for a study break. There is plenty of outdoor seating all around campus, and even grabbing a blanket or towel and sitting on Old Main lawn can make studying more enjoyable and relaxing. Besides, in a month or so, being outside won’t be so easy, so take advantage of the sunshine while you can!
4. Get Creamery Ice Cream
Everyone is always wary of gaining the freshman fifteen, but have you tasted the famous creamery ice cream yet? It’s totally worth the calories. Besides, if you’re in East, it’s most likely on the way to several of your classes anyways. Go ahead, treat yourself.
5. Go to a Football Game.
Even if you forgot to set your alarm and missed the 7 a.m. wake-up call for season tickets, it’s not too late to make it to a game this fall. The energy in Beaver Stadium on gameday is something that you have to experience at some point freshman year. If you’re really lucky, you might even get tossed in the air after a touchdown! Check out the student ticket exchange- there’s always someone who will be selling a ticket.
6. Join a Club- Just for Fun.
Freshman year can be pretty overwhelming, especially if you are coming in not knowing a ton of people already. Don’t worry about only joining something to boost your resume. Instead, step out of your comfort zone and get involved in something just because it interests you. You have three more years to worry about being ~career goals~ so let fall semester be an experience. The opportunities for involvement are endless, so take advantage of them!
This list is short and sweet, so go and start checking them off. However, the most important thing to do this fall? Make the most of every minute. It goes by faster than you think, so take advantage of it!
