With a new semester, and more importantly, a new year, quickly approaching, resolutions are on the forefront of everyone’s minds. Whether you’re worried about staying in shape while at school, or even just setting some new fitness goals, Penn State is the place to make them happen. With three gyms on campus, daily programs, and even personal training, there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of 2017! We tried out some of the most popular group workout classes, and here’s what we thought:
Power Remix: Are you more of a dancer than someone who likes lifting weights? Look no further than Power Remix! This upbeat class uses fun dance and cardio moves to get you energized and your heart rate up. With the entire class to the beat of pop tunes, this class is more of a dance party than a workout! A favorite among Penn Staters!
Tabatta: Tabatta is quickly becoming recognized as one of the best ways to get in shape and blast calories. In a boot-camp style workout, this 45-minute class utilizes cardio and muscle circuits in short bursts in order to get your blood pumping. Make sure to bring a water bottle and a towel- you’re going to sweat!
Calorie Killer: Calorie Killer was one of the first-ever fitness classes I took at Penn State, and it sure lives up to its name! By combining muscle work and intense cardio training in intervals, this hour-long class will leave you sweaty, sore, and energized!
Washboard Abs: Looking for a quick and effective workout to tone your core? Look no further than Washboard Abs. At only 30 minutes, this class focuses entirely on core and back exercises. Don’t let the short time slot fool you- you’ll feel the burn for days.
Butts n Gutts: A combination of core and leg exercises like squats, lunges, planks, and crunches, this class knows how to kick your butt! At only 45 minutes, this class is perfect if you’re looking for a quick and effective burn and short on time, or if you want to target these areas. As one of the most popular classes, Butts n Gutts is offered multiple days a week!
Yoga: Personally, my favorite classes to take are the various yoga classes. Whether you’re looking for a slow burn, to expand your flexibility, or simply to take your mind off the stress of school, yoga is the answer. With various different styles offered multiple days a week, there’s always something for everyone!
