Blog Post #3: The 27 Club

Club 27

This essay will be dedicated to the lives that have been cut short due to the overwhelming sense of being put in the spotlight. The 27 Club features legendary musicians that were internationally acknowledged for their style and creativity.

I decided to write about this because it’s a topic that I already have a substantial amount of knowledge in and I would love to further research the lives of great artists that I have grown up to love. I think I’ll focus most of my research on Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison simply because all of them have in common an accidental overdose or intentional suicide.

I’ll definitely reference to secondary research sites such as Forever 27, a tribute website that has related information on theories and myths about the 27 club. I’ll also look up various biography sites on each artist that would give me insight on their personal live.

Although I enjoy each of the artists music, the essay will not focus on that aspect. I want to be able to look inside the lives and characteristics of each departed individual in order to figure either the motives for their early departure or their nature of being in their situation.

I’ll probably focus more on an emotional appeal in order to relate to my audience a little better. I’ll also focus on their ethical appeal in order to evaluate their significance to their societal era.I want to analyze the process that lead them to the point of no return in order to prove that “it’s better to burn out than to fade way”.

I think you have good potential for your evaluation. Make sure you find solid evidence and references to support your thesis. I like how you will be invoking pathos to appeal to your audience. I think this will be effective in highlighting their importance and influence in their social era. I’m interested in seeing the final evaluation.

This sounds like a very interesting topic, as I am also a fan of a few of the musicians in the 27 Club. As long as your essay stays away from too much background and history of the artists and instead focuses on your criteria, you should be able to write a great essay. An interesting thing to look at may be similarities between how the artists went out. You could then tie it to the music industry as a whole, maybe uncovering a larger, more encompassing problem. Looking forward to seeing your essay.
