Design Elements for Online Courses- 311B
Amy Kuntz, Instructional Designer, Teaching and Learning with Technology
A picture is worth is 1,000 words, yet in several online courses the majority of the online content is words and not pictures. In addition to pictures, the inclusion of visual design elements beyond standard images can really take an online course to the next level. In this session, learn how to:

  • Add a visual appealing course home page
  • incorporate navigation icons to guide the student learning progression
  • include images into your course
  • incorporate infographics as visual aids such as lesson introduction /summaries, as well as, an introduction to the syllabus

After some hands-on practice of creating an infographic, the session will conclude with strategies for adding visual interactivity to your Canvas course via colored textboxes, button tabs, and rollover effects.

Or write “good” papers?  At their root, these questions can signal students’ difficulties with disciplinary content, but also with information literacy (IL). This session focuses on uncovering and honing the IL learning goals embedded in assignments and courses so that we can more effectively focus on teaching students the needed IL skills and practices.
