Maids and stuff

Maid Sama

Kaichou.wa.Maid-sama!.full.590024  Kaichou.wa.Maid-sama!.full.590024

So time for another lovey dovey romance anime….to an extent…

This anime is pretty interesting to me for a few reasons.

1. It shows a girl not being taken control by a guy

2. This girl happens to be incredibly strong and able to hold her own in a tough situation

3. She has a secret life that makes her a little more human

kaichou-wa-maid-sama-211991 kaichou-wa-maid-sama-211991kaichou-wa-maid-sama-211991

This series takes place at a high school called Seika High, an all boys school that was recently turned co-ed. Because this school is known to be housing filthy reckless boys, there is a small population of girls attending the school. One of the girls happens to be Misaki who over time became the class president. Her goal was to make Seika High a refreshing place that would welcome more girls and keep the guys under control. Misaki’s characteristics include being very forceful, blunt, strong, and somewhat biased or sexist when it comes to the boys that attend the school. Although she has an extremely tough appearance, Misaki has a secret life that she likes to keep from everyone in school. She is a maid working at a restaurant called Maid Latte.

Kaichou-wa-maid-sama-kaichou-wa-maid-sama-27113392-500-281 Kaichou-wa-maid-sama-kaichou-wa-maid-sama-27113392-500-281

Now this isn’t your typical restaurant where a waitress simply takes your order, gives you your check and you leave…

This restaurant has maids as waitresses who are to call every man who enters “master” and fulfill their wishes. Now, this side of Misaki is in contrast with her persona at school. No wonder she would want to keep it a secret.

Everything is running smoothly until one day one of the popular boys in school, Usui, finds out her secret. Instead of running his mouth, he goes to the restaurant everyday to make Misaki follow his orders for his own pleasure.

There’s a lot more to this series than just what it appears. There are so many different plot twist and romance that builds up through the series. No, this anime isn’t primarily focused on the romantic aspect, but rather comedy. So even if romance isn’t your thing, you’re sure to find this series funny.

A different kind of news story

The Legend of Korra

The-Legend-of-Korra-season-2-episode-1-premiere1 The-Legend-of-Korra-season-2-episode-1-premiere1

Now I know you were all expecting some kind of hard hitting or slightly more important news story. Something about a new drug, wars, bombing..etc. However today I will be talking about another recent event.. the season finale of The Legend of Korra.

Yes, normally my blog posts are about different animated series, and yes Korra does fit this criteria. But because it’s recent news I can get away with talking about something I find interesting (:

So I know before I’ve talked pretty lowly of this particular series, because it seemed too predictable and boring. However with the last three episodes being released as well as the finale the series has taken a completely different turn. It’s totally interesting, mind blowing, suspenseful… everything a good anime should be.

To back track a little, the second season of Legend of Korra starts out with Korra attempting to learn more about the spiritual aspect of being an avatar. To try and better herself she leaves her current mentor Tenzin (her airbending teacher) to the northern water tribe where she meets her uncle Unalaq. She seeks out her uncle because he is said to have vast knowledge about different spiritual energies. While learning different techniques, Korra teams up with her uncle and decides to open up the first portal to the spirit world. You later learn that Korra’s uncle Unalaq was using her powers selfishly to help him gain more power and take over the world.

Legend-of-Korra 86575-legend-of-korra-fans-going-to-comic-con-will-get-to-watch-the-book-2-p

This is just about enough information to take us to episode 21 out of 26.

We leave off with Korra being attacked by an evil spirit and having her memory lost. After the recovery of her memories along with new found information about the first avatar, Korra is left with the task of closing off the two different spirit portals to ensure that the evil spirit Vaatu would not be able to take over the world. Throughout the last few episodes we see Korra really develop into a strong and confident avatar as she is faced with countless obstacles while trying to attempt to close the spirit world.

Basically everything about the last few episodes makes it worth watching until the end. The battles are more epic, the different spirit designs are completely amazing, and you also find yourself learning life lessons along the way.

Definitely worth the watch.

Bleeding Hearts

AyalPress-BeautifulSouls-author-book <———- Dis stud muffin

Eyal Press’ Beautiful Souls gives us access to a wide range of complicated ethical issues.  Key among them is the divergence of our moral obligations.  What are we to do, for instance, when what personally believe conflicts with the rules we are supposed to follow as good citizens, or good professionals? Is there sufficient difference to be made between WWII war criminal invoking the Superior Orders defense (99) and the Israeli or Palestinian soldier refusing orders for religious reasons? In this discussion, we will take a closer look at these issues as they relate to religious sentiment, moral pluralism, and the justifications of “refuseniks.”  Discussion will focus specifically on Press’ Chapter 3, “The Rules of Conscience.” I will provide a handout with some notes and brief readings as impetus to an open discussion.

To be honest, I went to this seminar and didn’t fully grasp the concept the professor was trying to teach us. He kept talking about how he interpreted the book differently and saw that there was a bigger picture. When reading this book, everyone is going to have different views about what they ultimately believe was the right or wrong thing to do in the situation. I believe what makes us a good person is based off of following our morals to the best of our abilities and standing up for what we believe in. And sometimes doing the right thing doesn’t always hit you instantly; it takes multiple attempts. It doesn’t take much logic to think back to the Holocaust and say, if I were in that position I could have never been able to kill all those innocent people. But look at the soldiers, they were simply doing their job, what they assumed was right. To them, it took the invasion of the US and multiple trials to show them that ethically and morally what they were doing was wrong. Not all of us grow up the same way. Each of us have experienced different situations that have shaped who we’ve become and who we will become.

I feel at this point as if I’m just simply ranting about a simple concept. But to be frank, I’ll just say that…think like Thoreau. Sure his ideas may seem a little different and probably wouldn’t work in a modern setting..

“There will never be a really free an enlightened State until the State comes to recognize the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived, and treats him accordingly.” (Henry David Thoreau “On the Duty of Civil Disobedience 1849)

In our discussion this idea stuck with me. Sure to an extent following what you believe is right may be a little unethical.. obviously murdering someone because you feel it’s okay is not an acceptable idea in today’s society. But I believe the underlying message is important as long as you don’t get too carried away with it. Stand up for what you believe in, it’s only fair and it’s your right.

Like Twilight, but not as lame.

VAMPIRE KNIGHT

watch-vampire-knight-guilty-episodes-online-english-sub-thumbnailpic-jpg 600full-vampire-knight-poster

So I know this vampire craze has died down since the first Twilight movies came out… (terrible series of movies, don’t even bother) but I thought I’d talk about an anime series that came out in 2008 called Vampire Knight.

51b3f787f02d593069 51b3f787f02d593069

Basically, the first episode sets the seen with a young girl, Yuki Cross, left in the middle of the forest during winter. She is wandering around when suddenly a vampire stops her and attempts to take her life. Before his fangs can sink into her neck, another vampire named Kaname appears and takes the life of the ruthless blood thirsty vampire. Their relationship is left pretty general. You’re not too entirely sure what their connection is. After the attack Kaname takes Yuki to Kaien Cross’s house, who happens to be the headmaster of a university. After time goes by Kaien adopts Yuki as his daughter and allows her to attend Cross Academy. At first glance this school appears to be just like any other. However, there are two distinct classes, the morning and night. The night class has a certain characteristic that sets them apart from other students; they are vampires. Since Yuki grew up around the presence of vampires she was entitled the task of guarding the night class with her friend Zero, to ensure the safety of the students.

Throughout the anime different relationships are revealed. You learn more about Yuki and Kaname’s relationship and see it kindle into some kind of an awkward romance (it all makes sense at the end). Either way, this anime is full of twists and turns that will leave you on edge. Each episode is just as climactic as the one before.

Even if hunky animated vampires aren’t your thing, you most definitely need to watch. ^__^ ^__^

INUYASHA THE FINAL ACT

inuyasha__final_act_poster_by_half_demon_cali inuyasha__final_act_poster_by_half_demon_cali

Luckily for me and somewhat unfortunate for you,

You lovely people get to see me talk about one of my favorite anime series EVER. (literally as I’m typing an episode of Inyuasha is playing in the background…I go hard) However as I’ve said before, yes, this anime has 167 episodes with 4 movies. But that isn’t the end of the series. This series held 26 amazing episodes that were released in March 2009, and ended on May 11, 2010. Why is this series so amazing you ask? Well, the final episodes of Inuyasha were left on a cliff hanger, we weren’t quite sure what would be the end. This series help to end our confusion and find ourselves in bliss. Yes, Inuyasha still finds himself battling countless demons with his gang Kagome, Shippo, Meroku and Sango. But the battles become far more intense and less predictable. Not every battle has that amazing win. Sometimes it’s just learning a lesson. Without giving away too much, this series does have an amazing ending that is somewhat unexpected just leaving you with a giant smile on your face. Even thinking about it makes me little emotional.

InuYasha - The Final Act - 05 - Large 18 InuYasha - The Final Act - 05 - Large 18

Now you must understand, as silly as it is to get attached to an anime this show was my childhood. I used to stay up as much as I could to watch this show being broadcasted on Adult Swim back in 6th grade. (flashback over)

normal-www.animefo.com-inuyasha-the-final-act-animax-dubbed693 InuYasha_TFA_270x400

Besides the awesome plot, other things have changed in the anime. There are a handful of new primary characters that are so twisted and interesting. The animation style was improved greatly from the beginning episodes. Just thinking about it gets me excited. Now I know watching 167 episodes just to watch the last 26 seems a little demanding, but once you start watching this you honestly won’t be able to stop. You’ll find yourself loving Inuyahsa’s futile rants and sassy comments. You’ll find yourself hating Kagome’s caty fights but end up loving how she never gives up on Inuyasha….there’s so much more. It would be a mistake to not watch this anime.

College?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So as you all know or should by now Andrew Delbanco spoke at Penn State recently talking about the importance of college. Since I didn’t get to see him speak, I read an article from Inside Higher Ed Delbanco answers students questions about what college is really for. Most of his ideas are the fact that through the years, people have come to neglect what college is really about, focusing on just finding their life partner, where the next party is at, or this is just what my parents want. Rather than spending time socializing college is about being able to find yourself and figure out your morals as a person. Other factors have caused the importance of college to diminish including the price.

Throughout the years college has gotten to be more and more expensive, pretty much only allowing the “elites” to better themselves and attend college. One of the basic principles of early American society was the opportunity for anyone to better themselves and become an established person in their community. With the rising prices of college this idea isn’t being met, only focusing on the higher ups that have the ability to pay, leaving the lower class out of the picture. College shouldn’t be about who can pay for it. If we are a nation that prides ourselves on intelligence and individuality then we should allow anyone to have the chance to create themselves, shape themselves whatever. Instead of focusing on college as strictly being a privilege it should be a right.

Date rape, ahoy!

roofies

WHO LOVES FRATS?!

YOU DO?!

Well, do you like getting roofied? No?

……then maybe you should reconsider that…..just sayin’.

As we all are most likely aware, drugs in our society are becoming more of a problem. New forms of drugs are being created everyday, as you may have learned from my fellow blogger Alyssa Loera’s post about Krocodil. People are looking for cheaper ways to get that new high. People are also looking for new ways to get game. This new way you ask? well it’s been around since the 1970’s my friends, it’s called Flunitrazepam — also known as Narcozep, Rohypnol, Rohipnol, Roipnol, or in the vernacular, simply roofies. This drug is most commonly known as the “date rape drug”. The common side effects of roofies are a somewhat intoxicated mindset (dizzy, slurred speech, sluggishness ) along with amnesia. Roofies are commonly spiked in people’s drinks for the purpose of “an easy rape” so the victim doesn’t know what happened to them, or just believed they had too much to drink that night.

Roofies are becoming a “tool” in fraternities to guarantee an easy score with a girl. I guess people are getting too impatient with the idea of taking a girl out on a date anymore. How sad.

A University of Central Florida fraternity is under questioning after getting caught playing a “game” involving roofies at a pirate-themed mixer with Kappa Kappa Gamma in February. According to local police from Central Florida University, members of Delta Upsilon fraternity drugged random drinks before mixers with various sororities and then passed the roofie coladas on the bus to sponsored events. The point of the game was to guess by the end of the night, which of the lucky ladies were drugged without their consent.

The point of this entire blog post is to just be careful when you go out. Never take an open drink from a stranger, I know this seems like a logical idea, but so many people think “that’ll never happen to me” well who knows? Always go out with a group of friends, each person having a designated partner to look after one another, that way you’re never alone and you always have someone watching your back.

Be safe, and have a wonderful Halloween weekend (:

Crazy

Mirai Nikki

mirai_nikki_112 Mirai-nikki-fanart-wallpaper-gasai-yuno

So clearly I’m not advocating the idea of mass murder or anything, however the title is completely appropriate with the anime I chose to review this week, Mirai Nikki -Future Diaries-

This series is unlike anything that I normally watch. It’s completely barbaric, psychotic, confusing, and totally amazing. This show follows the life of a boy named Yuki who is entering middle school. His entire life, he always had problems creating lasting friendships with people. Eventually he found himself recording events around him through a diary on his phone, and stopped engaging in conversation with people. When Yuki was home from school, he would go to his room and escape into another world with a God named Deus. One day, Deus offers Yuki the chance to participate in a game, turning  the diary on his phone into a “future diary” that would predict events for the next 3 months. Yuki accepts and finds himself out and about carefree since he knows exactly what happens everyday. Little did he know there are 11 other diary owners, each with a unique ability to predict different things.

The purpose you ask?

The purpose of this game is to find the other diary owners (whose identities are kept secret by Deus) and kill them.

Mirai-Nikki-mirai-nikki-28608951-2560-1132

What happens to the last one standing?

Oh nothing major, they just become God. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

mirai_nikki_9083

So Yuki finds himself scared, trapped and weak since he has no ability at all to take on the other 11 future diary owners. Luckily for him, a wonderful girl named Yuno who had been stalking him secretly for a year prior to all this happening was willing to help. She was also a future diary owner herself. Her future diary you ask? it was a diary of Yuki’s life. This basically proves that they are a perfect match for one another. How cute.

This anime is literally one of the most interesting things I’ve watched in my life, and it would be a mistake to not consider watching it. I understand not everyone loves anime, or it’s more that people are too stubborn to try it, but you should really consider watching this. Each character changes drastically, you never know what is going to happen, there are new characters every few episodes, the list goes on to why this anime is just so perfect.

Watch it.

Teddy bears tho..

So as we can all agree, Polar bears are basically the best thing ever….

1-605_Polar_Bears_hd  polar-bear-lounging-1024x768

and I don’t really know how many more pictures I could show you to prove that statement. However you all should be pretty aware of the global crisis that has been going on for the past few years, global warming. This man made problem has caused these cute little guys to lose their natural habitat slowly but surely. The constant increase thermal temperature of the earth combined with the growing pollution rate has caused the polar ice caps to being to melt.

Now when you think of this happening, I’m assuming one of your first thoughts would be, “alright some ice far away is melting…so what?” Well let me tell you the constant pollution is stripping these teddy bears of their homes.

polar-bear-on-ice-flow Polar-Bear-Ice

This loss of a home has made it fairly difficult for polar bears to sustain a normal life. These kind of conditions have caused the decrease in population due to lack of resources of the polar bear, and a strange set of migratory patterns. Information released from the WWF estimate that by 2040 all ice will be melted from the arctic regions, leaving a short amount of time for adaptation. It is guessed that polar bears will become endangered (which they nearly are) and go extinct in the next century or so.

Becoming aware of this problem and creating awareness is the first step to helping solve a problem we as humans caused. Donating money to different organizations designed to improve the habitats of polar bears is another beneficial way to help increase the chance of survival. Another step is just simply taking care of the world. As hippie as this sounds, this is our planet, our responsibility, and we happen to share it with some pretty amazing species of animals that love it and use it just as much as we do. So it is our job to maintain balance so we can all live happily. I mean, who would want this adorable face to disappear?

Save the teddy bears.

 Romeo x Juliet

Romeo.x.Juliet.full.124330romeo-moe-61021-curio-francisco-juliet_fiammata_asto_capulet-romeo_candorebanto_montague-romeo_x_juliet

Hello my children,

As much as you’re going to hate it initially today my anime will be focused around a Shakespearian play I’m all sure we are familiar with. Any guesses? Of course not. Today I will be talking about Romeo x Juliet.

RomeoXJuliet - 20 - Large 19romiju2302

This literally combines my two favorite things on this earth together in one fantastic 24 episode series that just knocks your socks off…(if you’re even wearing any) In this fantastical series if you haven’t guessed already is a spin off of quite a classic play, Romeo and Juliet. In the beginning just like in the play, there are two houses; the Capulets and the Montague’s. The power hungry prince from the household Montague slaughters the Capulet house in order to gain power. Through his raid he misses a young girl, lady Juliet who escapes the castle and remains in hiding for 14 years. Secretly dressing as a boy her whole life to disguise herself, Juliet finds herself fighting crime in the city of NeoVerona because the tyrant king Montague has the city in turmoil looking for the lost Capulet girl. As the traditional story goes, Romeo and Juliet end up meeting through a strange series of events, once learning her identity they find themselves in struggle over how to maintain their love in this terrible time.

romiju

Regardless of if you’re a huge shakespeare fan or not, this anime will leave you on edge because it is loosely based on the actual play leaving sooooo much room for plot twists, different behaviors of characters and so on. Also, there is a fantasy aspect of the anime series that will literally leave you dying to watch every episode to find out the ending… which will take you by total surprise. That being said this is definitely an anime I would highly recommend, you won’t be bored!

Not to mention, William Shakespeare is in this anime… ^__^

Opposites attract?

Itazura Na Kiss

itazura-na-kiss itazura-na-kisss

This story is a romantic comedy that really doesn’t start much like one. We start off seeing a young girl named Kotoko entering her high-school ceremony. She becomes completely infatuated with the idea of the smartest boy in school named Naoki. However this pair seems highly unlikely since Kotoko has one of the lowest grades in her class. This entire anime is about her trying to prove herself to Naoki time and time again after being publicly shot down. I know this doesn’t seem that interesting at first but after and unfortunate series of events in Kotoko’s life, she finds herself being forced to live in the same house as Naoki since their parents are friends.

This anime is great because once you think you know what’s going to happen it takes a completely different turn. You find yourself hating Kotoko at times for being so senseless when it comes to liking Naoki after all his verbal abuse, but then you understand why she is trying to hard and end up rooting for her. With Naoki, in my case, I was so mesmerized by how “cool” he was because whenever you think of the smartest guy in school you normally think major nerd which isn’t the case at all.

I know this doesn’t seem like one of my longest blog posts ever at that has to do with the fact that this anime in particular has wayyyyyyyyyyy to much to talk about and I don’t really want to spill anything. All I can say is watch it and see how you react to the different characters. I’m sure everyone will have a different perspective.

Liar liar, pants for higher.

Just to make this post a little more interesting I’ll give a little background story about how I came across this topic. Later this week I ended up going home to visit my mother. Every morning she would try to wake me up at 6 a.m. to watch Good Morning America with her, which wasn’t an intended plan of mine because:

1. I don’t have time for that.

2. I LOVE sleep.

3. I am the furthest thing from a morning person.

However I happened to catch the last bit of the news and came across the story of a young girl named Rebecca Sedwick. A 12 year old girl who never really felt in and found herself becoming more and more isolated in school due to her frequent bullying. At a certain point, her parents took her out of school in order to focus on academics. This idea worked for an extended period of time until cyber bullying became more of a problem in Rebecca’s life. As much as she tried to get through it, she found it increasingly hard, resulting in cutting herself, isolating herself until it became unbearable. Rebecca eventually jumped off the top of a building resulting in her immediate death. She would no longer have to deal with the constant negativity around her anymore.

Now one would think that this incident would cause some kind of sympathy within the bullies, but this was not the case. Once Rebecca’s death was released one of the girls from her school released a post on Facebook stating, “Yes I bullied REBECCA and she died but IDGAF.” This led to the girls arrest.

The reason why I picked this topic is because I can relate to it. As a kid, I was bullied because I was always “that new girl” and I never had the chance to become rooted where my family lived. I feel that no one should feel as though they aren’t welcome or wanted in any sense. Rebecca’s death could have been totally avoided if the girls in her school were just more accepting and saw her signs as a cry for help.

INUYASHA

INUYASHA-GROUP-inuyasha-33476292-2500-1777inuyasha-anime-33205439-500-354

So I try to remain unbiased when it comes to talking about different anime series, but I can’t help but become a little excited when it comes to talking about this particular show. Today my friends, I am going to talk about the anime that changed my life, basically the one thing that caused me to become extremely obsessed with anime and also destroyed my social life, Inuyasha. Without giving away too much about this show, my personal opinion is that you have not yet lived if you haven’t seen at least 50 episodes out of the possibly 200+.

473534BA-0 Inuyasha inuyasha-bike-wallpaper

The story line is set in modern day Japan with a teenage girl named Kagome. She was raised in a semi-awakward setting on an ancient shrine in the middle of a crowded time. Kagome was never focused on the idea of evil spirits until she is one day dragged down a blocked well in her shrine. She then understands that being dragged down the well put her in the feudal era in Japan.  This is only the beginning to a long adventure with her friends and somewhat love interest Inuyasha who happens to be a half demon. The primary focus of this show is the collection of sacred jewel shards in order to maintain balance between demons and humans. As much as I’d love to ramble on and spill all the juicy details I will contain myself and allow you to make your own opinions. I would highly recommend this anime series.

So uh, what’s up?

131010140110-denis-mukwege-press-conference-story-top_66112433_rwa

So for this specific blog post I’ve been assigned to talk about current events going on in society. Since I basically spend no time what so ever in the outside world other than whats on twitter and facebook, I found this to be a little bit challenging. I literally had to go to five different sites in order to find something semi-interesting in my perspective. This made me realize that I should devote a certain amount of time ever day or so to catch up on what has been going on around me.

The topic I will discuss today is about a man possibly being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Denis Mukwege is the medical director of Panzi Hospital in the eastern Congo where the area has been plagued by violence for over twenty years. Panzi Hospital was utilized as a sanctuary for women of rape in the Congo since tactics of war in this country is primarily focused on using rape as a weapon of war. Most women in the hospital view Denis as a sort of father figure focusing on their problems and well being over his own. His views led to a series of attacks on his family, at a certain time his daughters were held at gunpoint while waiting for their fathers return home. After barely shot, his family was taken into safety in the Brussels where he continued his work of helping other women with domestic abuse. Behaving in such a self-less manor is what inspired me to become more aware of Denis Mukwege’s work, and I’m extremely glad I did.

Tweet Tweet.

twitter.jpgtwitter.jpg

As we all know, catching up on the latest news as a busy college student can be a tedious task. With barely enough time to finish homework and study, we are left with a small margin of time to catch up on the outside world. In this span of 10-15 minutes, I resort to using the phone app Twitter. Now a warning to all of you, as helpful as twitter is it has a few “minor” side effects.

ex: loss of social life, yep that’s about it.

Twitter is basically the best thing that could happen in your life. It’s like instant knowledge of the world at your fingertips. Twitters design is simple with an array of tweets running down your screen vertically, ( you can see tweets from all the people you follow). Twitter is organized so all the most recent tweets are kept at the top while the older ore dated tweets are sent to the bottom. To discover more important things on twitter other than what your friends are doing with their lives or that girl trying a pumpkin spice latte for the first time, you can click on the discover button at the bottom of the screen. This takes you to all the latest trends as well as the most retweeted tweet or something important. Another way to catch up on the latest news is when you refresh your tweets to find more, if there aren’t any new tweets a topic will pop up on the top of your screen giving you some kind of new news that’s out. How helpful. Needless to say I would recommend twitter to anyone.

The Legend of Korra a.k.a why am I still watching this?

avatar_the_legend_of_korra_by_darshabezarius-d5co21oavatar_the_legend_of_korra_by_darshabezarius-d5co21o

Let me start off by saying how hard reviewing this series will be for me…I’m sorry Korra.

The legend of Korra is a now a two season series on Nickelodeon and was anticipated to be one of the most highly watched programs on the network. This was true with the first season however with it’s newest season being released I can tell you fans like me have been left feeling completely unsatisfied.

The legend of Korra is about an avatar mastering all four elements of bending (air, water, earth, and fire) in order to maintain balance within the world. In the first season we meet Korra, a stubborn, headstrong, immature, physical girl go through a transformation into an intellectual, logical and reasonable fighter while mastering all forms of bending to save Republic City from the evil Amon.

Now I will sympathize with the writers on one thing, after having an extrememly epic first season with action, romance, comedy, heart ache, and character development it’s hard to create the same effect through a second season but COME ON NOW. In the new season Korra completely reverts back to her old ways as if nothing she accomplished in the first season even happened. She resorted back to being stubborn, self-centered in her relationship, sigh. The new plot line to put it simply is just terrible filled with “filler episodes” just to pass the time. Just by watching the first episode I was left feeling empty inside.

As for the first season of Korra, I would highly recommend it, as for the second, if you’re looking for a good laugh (out of pity) knock yourself out.

Say I Love You (^___^)

Basically from this point on I will be recommending new anime series to my fellow anime lovers out there (^__________^) A way to become familiarized with the way I will be doing these kinds of reviews is as follows.

1. I have the right to insert any emoji face when I find it necessary because they are just so darn kawaii. If you’re not entirely sure what emoji faces are just look in the first few sentences of my review and you’ll get the picture.

Examples:

Unknown Unknown

2. Every anime that I review will not pertain to a specific genre, so you will be guaranteed  a variety of shows that will peek your interests.

Examples: romantic, romantic comedy, action, fantasy, etc.

3. The way I will be formatting this specific blog will be the title of the show, followed by a brief summary and character analysis. Obviously my “expert” opinion will be accompanied by this summary.

Beginning the reviews today I’ve picked out a series called “Say I Love You” by Hazuki Kanae. This show was meant to be a romantic comedy between two high school students named Tachibana Mei (the female lead) and Yamato Kurosawa (the male lead). Mei is a completely isolated and reserved girl who decided from a young age to be extremely cynical of peoples intentions. On the other hand Yamato is a very popular boy in his class and is extremely outgoing. By a stroke of luck the two encounter each other causing multiple changes within themselves, as well as the friends and peers around them.

I found this anime to be completely entertaining, the first time I watched it, I found myself becoming emotionally attached with the characters; feeling their pain and struggles. You find yourself sympathizing with Mei’s personal struggle of letting her guard down as well as Yamato’s constant persistence with trying to break Mei out of her shell. This anime has an underlying message that no matter what experiences define you as a person, there are always ways to recreate yourself.

Equivalent exchange ^__^

In the prologue to Beautiful Souls, Eyal Price explains that the book is “about the mystery of what impels people to do something risky and transgressive when thrust into a morally compromising situation . . . .”  He asks, “What does it take to resist at such moments? And how can we know that we should?  .  .  . At what point might an act of principled defiance veer into recklessness – or zealotry?”  Each of the people he writes (and speaks) about made the choice to resist – a choice made at a real cost, to their personal or professional lives – or both.  What do you think?  Was Leyla Wydler heroic or reckless?  Was “The Price of Raising [her] Voice” worth it?

In life your morals tested in different situations. Whether something is right or wrong, should be fixed or shouldn’t. In today’s society, when people are pressed in difficult situations, most stand aside and allow them to continue instead of taking action. This causes a chain reaction in thinking causing other people to believe it’s alright to notice something is wrong, and think that someone else will come along and finally fix it. More often than not, problems won’t fix themselves without the courageous actions of a few.

My answer is yes, it was right

In Leyla Wydler’s case, her morals were tested in the most extreme way when she was fired from her job for being a whistle-blower. I believe she made the right choice choosing to save millions of other people from fraudulence and scams from her company. Many people might assume that being fired from her job would influence her into sending fake anonymous letters. Instead, this persistence to continue to send letters after her termination shows her dedication to the cause. In Leyla’s case she could have easily been fired, complained about it for a little bit and moved on to find a new stable job, however she knew that the company was hiding something and she wouldn’t sit back and allow more people to be lied to. She saw the opportunity as a way to protect other people from being lied to.  In that aspect I find her to be a hero.

History of anime

Before we get into the different reviews about anime series, I thought I’d give a simple review of the history of anime. Animation first began in western Japan by film makers looking to expand their knowledge on different art styles. Different series became popular by depicting the lives of ordinary people through the use of animation, allowing for people to escape from reality into another world. Most anime series began in the early 1900’s in the form of comic strips. Anime became most popular in the 1980’s with different well known series like, Dragon Ball Z, as well as Real Robot.

This new type of animation also gave way to several famous film makers such as Hayao Miyazaki who created the film Spirited Away. Yearly, anime produces $2.8 billion in revenue. Once being subbed or voiced over by American actors, the revenue doubles.

To the left is an example of an older anime style, Dragon Ball Z while to the right is a newer series called Say I love you. The animation style has changed drastically over the span of 40 years.
