Soon, this space will contain information on the 2011 coral spawning experiments of the Baums lab. We’ll be in Puerto Morelos, Mexico this year so check back often!

Preparations for field work are almost completed. Of course there are a million things that still need to be checked, organized, and improvised. At the moment, our biggest worry is that the threatened elkhorn coral, Acropora palmata, will not spawn because sea surface temperatures are predicted to exceed the coral’s comfort level in the next few weeks. Stressed corals may forgo spawning altogether.
