To make my paradigm shift paper into a TED talk, the most important changes that I’ll be making is to the structure. In the original essay, I introduced each major moment in the development of video games and then talked about what the effect of those moments were immediately afterwards. In my TED talk though, I plan on introducing all of the moments chronologically first, then discussing what the major effects were of those moments afterwards. I think that this will help give the audience a clearer idea of the timeline of the development and progression of the video game industry and the ending will be more impactful as I focus only on the major effects of all of the resulting cultural changes.
Another change that I plan on implementing to my essay is significantly shortening all of the quotes. In the original, I used fairly long quotes because I wanted them to be full and descriptive, but it isn’t feasible to have multiple-sentence quotes from random experts in the middle of my presentation. I think the presentation will flow much better if I use more concise excerpts from their quotes to add some quick support for my ideas rather than using the quotes to entirely introduce a new idea.
Finally, the last change that I’m going to make is to add more specific examples of games to my essay. I think that it will make it more relatable for the audience if they can connect to specific games that they know. Also, it will make it easier to create an interesting PowerPoint if I can use images from games that I’m mentioning during the speech. I think that these changes will overall make my speech much more interesting and relatable and help the audience follow it better than they would if I just read my essay out loud.
