Continuing a Mont Alto tradition we had a cookout this evening to honor the graduating forest technology sophomores. The pavilion at Mont Alto State Park is a perfect place to meet. Veggie burgers are gaining on traditional beef and hot dogs!
For Earth Day this year the Forestry Club helped the Gettysburg Municipal Authority replant trees on a site near the Sachs Covered Bridge. We planted a variety of trees to replace a stand of decadent Norway Spruce that had recently been harvested.
New Officers
Today we elected new officers for the President, Vice President, and Communications positions.
The new President is Shaina Walker.
The new Vice President is Marc Stafford.
The new Communications Officer is Cullen Cameron.
Presenters
A big thank you today to Alexa Rudisill for presenting about her ski trip to Europe! It was very informative and interesting to learn about the culture and see the sites of another country.
Other events
Come to the Town Hall Meeting this Thursday 4/19/2018 to hear the Friends of Mont Alto State Park group and Garrett Hamilton and Levi Canon from the forestry club talk at the meeting about the program starting at 6:30pm.
Next Meeting: Tuesday April 23rd.
This year the Allegheny Society of American Foresters was very close to home, in Gettysburg. We had great participation from Mont Alto. Below is a picture of Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State University Park students at the meeting:
Competition at the Quiz Bowl showed that the new generation of foresters is studying hard. Congratulations to West Virginia University, the winners, and all the competitors.
Mont Alto beat Allegany College of Maryland and narrowly lost to WVU.
Communications Committee
Co-Chairs: Kayla Knauss, Cullen Cameron
The Communications Committee shall be responsible for marketing events, building and maintaining the Forestry Club SAF Student Chapter website, Facebook page, and outreach to local communities. They will keep the website current each semester and design flyers and other outreach tools as needed.
Members of the committee are: Garrett Hamilton, and Jacob Zielinski.
Fundraising Committee
Co-Chairs: Shaina Walker, Marc Stafford
The Fundraising Committee shall be responsible for creating and implementing fundraising activities each semester. Activities may include sales of clothing, firewood deliveries, and any other event the committee deems worthy.
Members of the committee are: Nate Hall, Karl Sowders, and Brady Williams
Activities Committee
Co-Chairs: Chris Neufer, Derrick Wenrick
The Activities Committee shall be responsible for developing a calendar of activities each semester. They will identify field trips, guest speakers, and community service events to participate in.
Members of the committee are: Bryce Bartolacci, Katie Kelly, Alexa Rudsill, Silas Dishong, and Kyle Hammond.
