Creating a Website

This e-portfolio is a collection of all the teaching technologies learnt and assembled at a web-space. This activity not only boosted the creative skills for designing a webpage but also gave me a platform for self expression. I got an opportunity to share my abilities with my colleagues and friends in the form of inputted text, electronic files, images and multimedia. I realized that anyone creating an e-portfolio is in charge of their learning and style of demonstrating their proficiency as knowledge of both, how does the web work and the message to be conveyed is applied.I was completely unaware of WordPress and had difficulties while I was preparing the website and the entire process was very time consuming. But with Brad’s help and my constant digging into WordPress helped me  develop my multimedia skills.

Video is a vital tool to record and broadcast yourselves any where. I am a person who likes to stay behind the lens and thus this was a little challenging activity for me. I composed myself and started with arranging pieces of information to be delivered in the video. One another problem was to recite everything while looking into the camera. But with the help of my classmates, who held my  recitation printed on sheet, I was able to make a decent eye contact with the camera. Our videos were recorded with a green background, and I learnt how to substitute it with a background of my choice. I prepared a video using various clippings to serve as a background for my recorded video. Brad was very kind to let us ‘play’ and understand the recording equipment and encouraged us at every step. The the entire setup resembled a photo-shoot and was an enjoyable learning; the video was perfect in the second take.

I used PowerPoint slides for presenting my lecture and understood that a thorough  preparation is needed for a good lecture. PowerPoint is the most convenient method of visual aid and it helped me align myself very systematically to my topic. I could create different slides and bring in a variety of pictures, fonts and also animations in a single presentation. PowerPoint presentations were user-friendly and very flexible; I could display the presentation live on a computer, print it, and easily navigated through at my command. My teaching session was recorded and I observed few loop holes in my lecture delivery, but the PowerPoint presentation very well served its purpose.

Creating a Podcast

While recording the podcast.

This was the most enjoyable activity of all. The experience was wonderful as its just you in there, recording and hearing yourself in a close compartment. It is a comfortable method of distributing your audio, without any interaction with someone. I had prepared notes to read for recording and after several recordings, I got my podcast audio. Two important things I kept in mind was to maintain the volume and pace of my speech while recording. Since it i not an interactive tool, it can be supplemented with graphical/visual aids. It can make it easy for people who don’t want to read a huge article, as they can listen then recording of the same.
