This is it everyone! THE LAST BLOG POST! WOOOOO!
So I decided that my last post should be about the place that has played a big role in making me who I am today. My hometown: Perkasie, PA.
Perkasie is a small, quaint, and safe town. It is in a great location since it is an hour north of Philadelphia, two hours from New York City, two hours from the NJ shore, and it is surrounded by a bunch of other nice towns (Doylestown, Quakertown, etc). I really love my hometown and it is appropriate to talk about in my last post because not only am I going home this weekend, but it is getting close to summer too!
So here is where the locals go in Perkasie, PA:
The Perk
Everyone in Perkasie knows where the Perk is and it is one of the best restaurants in town. It is usually full of people, so it uncommon to go and not recognize someone. The Perk makes a lot of homemade sauces and dips (best bleu cheese dressing in the entire world!) along with other homemade dishes. My favorite meal is their Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with their homemade fries. They also have an amazing French Onion Soup! They also have musicians come in every weekend and every Thursday is Trivia Night.
Lenape Park
Lenape Park is one of the few parks found in Perkasie and it is really beautiful. It has bike paths that runs alongside the East Branch Perkiomen Creek. There are also fields for baseball, a volleyball court, twin bridges, and a small skate park. In the summer, you will always see the paths filled with joggers, friends, kids riding bikes, and many more charming people.
Menlo Aquatics Center
This is one of our town’s public pools and it is quite an impressive one. Menlo Aquatics Center has a whirlpool, lazy river, activity pool for the kids, baby pool with a frog slide and whale spout, climbing wall, a huge drop slide, and twisting slide (as well as a snack stand–I worked there for one summer). This is a really fun place to go to with your friends!
Festivals
Even though Perkasie is relatively small, there are a lot of local businesses. So there are a few festivals throughout the year that give these businesses the chance to give out information, goods, etc. Community Day is in Lenape Park, Fall Fest is in Menlo Park, SpringFest is in the town’s center, and Gallery of the Arts is found in Perkasie’s neighboring town, Sellersville. We also have the oldest Christmas Tree lighting tradition in the United States!
Fourth of July Fireworks
This is probably one of my favorite events of the year. After Community Day (one of the festivals listed above), there is an amazing fireworks display at night. You can barely see a foot of grass in Lenape Park during this show. It is a really great summer night.
Perkasie has many little places and activities that go on that make it so great. It may not be Paris, Beijing, or Morocco, but it is my home.
Well, it has been a wonderful year of blogging. I hope you all have a great rest of the semester and an even better summer!
