Hello All, if you missed the memo about last nights meeting (sorry I forgot to send a reminder!), read this to find out what went on. Sam was crowned the official PSOC Try-hard for winning our pushup contest.
To honor the end of the semester, next week’s final meeting will be a Potluck! Bring something home made, something weis-made, something factory-made, something dining-hall-made, we’re not picky. We’ll be electing a new Canoe Division Chair, announcing photo contest winners, and hanging out for a while after the meeting. Don’t miss out!
Kayak Pool Session – PSOC members of all skill levels enjoyed this indoor kayak practice. While our experienced members enjoyed pioneering the art of vertical kayaking or completing 30 consecutive barrel rolls, others enjoyed simply paddling in circles or attempting to hit their first roll.
Governor Dick Bouldering Competition – After a friday night campfire singalong, PSOC members competed all day saturday at this outdoor rock climbing competition. There were personal victories and gigantic burritos had by all, and many enjoyed watching small chill busting dino moves and effortlessly scaling difficult routes.
Deer Rifle Season Opening Day – On this state wide holiday, several PSOCers attempted to get their deer, but none that I know of succeeded. Be very careful while hiking for the next two weeks, there are a lot of hunters with guns and it is ILLEGAL to be in any state forest or game lands without wearing orange.
York College One Tribe Climbing Competition – 12/6 – Feeling left out after you missed Gov. Dick? Fear Not! Sam will be leading a crew of PSOCers to another climbing competition, this time at an indoor rock gym. Email her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested, and pre register using this link.
Kayak Pool Sessions – 12/9, 7:30-10:30pm – Spots remain for this session’s final pool session. Give Aaron Fleishman $5 to be sign up and receive professional whitewater kayaking instruction. Gear is provided, and if you have your own gear feel free to just show up (with $5). All experience levels welcome. Email email@example.com for more info.
Kayak Practice Sessions at Spring Creek – These will occur weekly. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved.
Polar Bear Plunge – 12/12 – Rick Devery is planning this year’s annual polar plunge, a great chance for PSOCers to test their limits of cold endurance and skills of treating mild hypothermia. We’ll be getting up bright and early, and warming up afterward with hike and some hot chocolate. If interested, email email@example.com
Centralia – 12/13 – This ghost town in the heart of PA’s coal country was abandoned after underground coal mines caught fire. Over 50 years later, many of these fires still burn. If interested in witnessing this eerie spectacle of urban decay, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Fall Foliage Foto Contest – The Fall Photo contest is now closed for submissions, look forward to seeing the winners at our final meeting of the semester next week.
Logo Design Competition – Email any ideas for the new Outing Club logo to email@example.com by December 8. The competition is slim, so feel free to submit anything – a 30 second notebook doodle, a vague description of an idea, anything, we’re desperate for more submissions.
Officer Elections: Canoe Division Chair – 12/8 – PSOC will be designating a new officer to take charge of the PSOC’s growing canoe division. We are looking for an experienced paddling enthusiast willing to plan the logistics of various paddling events such as pool sessions and spring creek practice, as well as communicate with Adventure Rec who currently houses all PSOC paddling gear. At our December 8th meeting, candidates will give a short speech and then all club members attending will vote. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or talk to an officer if you’re interested in running.
