The American Studies program at Penn State Harrisburg invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of American Studies, with specializations in material culture and folklife, and ethnographic methods in the study of folklore. This position will commence in August of 2018. The American Studies program offers the BA, MA, and PhD degrees in American Studies, an integrated BA/MA program for academically superior students, and two graduate certificates in folklore and ethnography and in heritage and museum studies. In addition, the program manages two academic centers: the Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies, and the Pennsylvania Center for Folklore. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in American Studies, folklore/folklife, history, or a related field is required. Desirable secondary fields include digital humanities, history, and transnational studies, with a strong preference for digital humanities experience. Teaching assignments may include core graduate and undergraduate courses in American Studies, as well as courses supporting the folklore and ethnography certificate.
