Jessica O’Hara, Director of Rhetoric and Civic Life, teaches in the English Department, specializing in honors composition and co-leading the Ireland Summer Study Abroad Program. She earned her undergraduate degree at The University of Notre Dame and her Ph.D. at The University of North Carolina. As a western Pennsylvania native (a.k.a., a Yinzer), she has been enjoying her sojourn in Happy Valley since 2004. Jessica loves challenging the talented students in RCL to explore and share their passions. She sees the course as an incubator of ideas and an engine for change; indeed, she becomes ridiculously excited when students pursue course projects beyond the classroom. For fun, Jessica teaches group exercise classes with wild enthusiasm. In addition to her two school-age children and spouse, Jessica shares her home with a beautiful and dramatic cocker spaniel named Scarlett O’Hara.
