Mary was a first-year student in honors English here at Penn State over twenty years ago. After growing up in State College and enjoying her years as a Penn State undergraduate, Mary went on to Cornell to earn her Ph.D. There her work focused on intellectual and cultural history and literature, particularly that pertaining to modern movements in psychology. She was very excited by the opportunity to return to Penn State in the early years of the 21st Century and has loved teaching all sorts of English classes – ranging from Business Communications to Rhetoric and Civic Life (a favorite!) — along with History courses on themes such as the history of psychiatry and of family development. In the past, Mary worked as publicity director for a local animal shelter and remains a strong advocate for animal welfare. Her cat, Mr. Guy, is a beloved family member. She just returned from leading a study abroad program in London and highly recommends global program experiences to students. She adores the opportunities for self-exploration and discovery that RCL projects afford and looks forward to working with this year’s crew!
