The Petticoat Duel by Samantha Lavan
Abstract:
“For the open-ended flap book project I wanted to tell the story of the Petticoat Duel. This was an incident that happened in London in 1792 where a woman of high society insulted the looks of another and was challenged to a duel by pistols. I feel like the flap book medium lends itself well to the story because it allows for a hidden reveal.”
Betwixtian Record by Kaitlyn Harris
Abstract:
“The “Betwixtian Record” is a flap book I have created to illustrate the details of the pre-existing history for a personal story I have written, the title of which is currently pending. I created all illustrations and prose featured in the flap book. The background texture was manipulated in Photoshop from a royalty free source. The flap book’s intent is to outline, in traditional metamorphosis book fashion, the “prologue” of the story I have written. It tells the story of the beginning of dreams and the effect they have on us as humans, and those in other realms. It mimics the poetic conventions and aesthetic style of old fashioned flap books like the ones we observed in class. I wanted to closely resemble the antique, hand drawn books that we studied. I used the traditional format to better enhance the authenticity of the “Betwixtian Record” in keeping with its time period.”
Chronicles of the Casket by Samuel Yeaton
Abstract:
“For this project, I essentially wanted to virtually recreate my own experience as I started my first graphic story. When it began, I painted/sketched on a sketchpad that flipped pages vertically. With Unity, I have been able to formalize the presentation of my story, and enhance the thematic experience by incorporating an audio file that I created in Logic Pro.”
