Apply website managers for the Behrend Beacon

Dr. Su,
I just made an application for the website manager position. I am interested in having several students (three or so) working on the website. If you know of any students who would be interested, either I can send them the form or you are free to. I would also like to try to stop into some comp sci, website design, or other similar classes to promote this.

A message from our alumni on a job opportunity in Lockheed Martin

Hello Dr. Su,

This is Jeremy Thomas, Behrend grad May 2016 (Software Engineering). I have been working for Lockheed Martin for the past 11 months.

We are currently seeking Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Hardware Engineers, System Engineers and System Administrators at our facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  We work on and maintain GPS Satellites for the US Air Force. These satellites control both Civilian Signals (Cell phone, Stock Market, Air Traffic Control, etc.) and Military Signals.

As many of our SE’s become “Insurance Engineers” working on insurance, I challenge the rest to work on systems that have impact beyond the world of insurance or business. What happens when bank software has issues? A singular bank goes down for a number of hours/days until it’s fixed and is barely noticed by our fast paced society. But what happens when something goes wrong with a Satellite or GPS?  Y2K scare, Airports shut down, Loss of Military defense systems, Stock Market crashes, etc.

If you are looking for a career that makes you feel like you are contributing to more than just how much money can Company-A can make vs Company-B. I urge you to think about a career in the Defense Industry.

Please pass on this information to any and all students looking for jobs after graduation. If you or your students have any questions feel free to send them my way.
