1998 PSGC Graduate Fellow

Ann Hornschemeier was a recipient of the PSGC Graduate Fellowship for two consecutive cycles for her exceptional work in astronomy and astrophysics. She said, “The Space Grant program helped me gain the credentials needed to progress in my space-related career.” Ann has been at NASA Goddard since 2004 for X-ray Astrophysics. Her work is in multiwavelength astronomy, with a major emphasis on X-ray emission from galaxies and on X-ray astronomy projects. Ann is now the chief scientist for NASA’s Physics of the Cosmos (PCOS) program. As chief scientist, she monitors progress in scientific research and technological development toward achieving the PCOS science objectives, which cover high-energy astrophysics and cosmology. She also serves on the science working group for Astro-H, an X-ray astronomy satellite launching in 2015, and the NuSTAR mission, another space-based X-ray telescope launched in 2012.
