wilt2009 Sylvia Stein Memorial Scholarship Awardee

A recent graduate of Penn State University, Grier Wilt was supported by PSGC in her many space-related activities. Grier’s participation in Space Grant began when she was in second grade through the Saturday Science program at Susquehanna University. She stated, “This program was the best thing to ever happen to me as it was a catalyst for future scientific endeavors.” Grier received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and was awarded the Sylvia Stein Memorial Scholarship during her junior year. Grier participated in four co-op rotations at the NASA Johnson Space Center and served as project engineer for the ¼ scale Crew Exploration Vehicle Water Egress and Survival Trainer. Grier now works at NASA as an ExtraVehicular Activity (EVA) Flight Controller and Instructor. Her job includes developing hardware requirements and designing procedures for EVAs (space walks), and training astronauts to use EVA spacesuits, tools, and hardware. She also simulates the environment of space using vacuum chambers, partial gravity simulators, and the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory.
