University Park Rainwater Catchment Project

Background

Engineers Without Borders started a new team during the Spring semester of 2017, tailored to work on a domestic project on campus. Their debut project was the Rainwater Catchment Tank at the Morning Star Solar Home at Penn State

Goal

The goal of project was to address a recurring issue with the Car Port at the solar home, where rainwater would fall onto the sloping roof, get caught by the gutter system, and drain right back into the ground.

Design and Closeout

Since the Car Port roof had such a large surface area, we decided to design and install a catchment tank that could catch the excess rainwater falling on the Port, store it, and distribute it to the garden at the ground level of the area. The project reached completion during the Spring semester of 2018.
