Recommended Academic Plan

For students pursuing a B.A. in Communications at Greater Allegheny

The recommended academic plan (RAP) is a basic guide that Communications majors at Penn State Greater Allegheny should use to help them schedule their classes over a four year period. It is accessible online through the following link: Recommended Academic Plan for the B.A. in Communications (COMCC).

  • A printable version of the RAP can be downloaded here.

For communications students on the 2+2 plan

Students who intend to transfer to University Park after their second year (often called the 2+2 program) should consult the Information for Transfer Students page on our website, as well RAPs for the specific majors they intend to pursue, as the lists of required courses can vary. Follow the links below in order to access RAPs for the College of Communications and the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences:

College of Communications – offers degrees in Advertising/Public Relations, Film-Video, Journalism, Media Studies, and Telecommunications. Penn State students seeking entrance into the College of Communications need to take note of the following important information:

  1. Students need to have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 to transfer into any of the five majors in the College of Communications. To ensure the best success for transferring into the College of Communications, academic advisors recommend that students seeking admittance earn a minimum of 2.75 GPA while attending Penn State Greater Allegheny.
  2. Entrance to the Advertising/PR major requires a minimum 3.3 GPA, the completion of Econ 102, as well as special permission from the College of Communications. Students interested in pursuing this major are encouraged to contact the College of Communications’ advising office as early as possible in order to discuss their plans with an academic advisor. The phone number is (814) 865-1503.
  3. Entrance into the Film major requires the completion of COMM 150 and COMM 242 by the end of the student’s 4th semester, as well as special permission from the College of Communications. Students who are unable to take COMM 150 and/or COMM 242 at their local campus can apply for an “early change of assignment to University Park for their 4th semester” in order to complete their course requirements in the appropriate time frame. Again, students are encouraged to contact an academic advisor in the College of Communications to discuss their intentions and plans (the earlier the better).

Communication Arts and Sciences – housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
