How To Acquire ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro

Individual Licenses for Faculty, Staff, and Departments:

  1. Go to https://software.psu.edu/all-products/browse/keyword/esri
  2. Log in with your Penn State Access ID
  3. Select the desired product (ArcGIS Desktop Advanced or ArcGIS Pro)
  4. Choose between Single User license or Concurrent Network license and specify the desired number of licenses you need
  5. Submit your order
  6. In a day or two you will receive emails from Software@PennState or ESRI including:
    1. A link to download ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro software
    2. License file(s) to be used in authorizing the software
  7. To authorize ArcMap, provide the license file(s) when prompted after you download and install ArcMap on your computer. (Or use the file to update concurrent licenses in a local License Manager, if appropriate.)
  8. To authorize ArcGIS Pro, use one of the two following methods:
    1. (Preferred) Enter your Penn State ArcGIS organization username and password after you download and install ArcGIS Pro. You should be prompted to log in following installation or when first opening the software, or you can enter your username information later by selecting Named User License in the Licensing menu.
      1. If you don’t have a Penn State ArcGIS organization account, contact the administrator of the ArcGIS Online organization in your Department or College. They will create an account for you that will authorize your ArcGIS Pro software and give you access to ArcGIS Online content.
    2. Alternatively, select “Single Use License” in the licensing window in ArcGIS Pro and provide the license file emailed to you by ESRI. Note that the software will be authorized but the user will not have access to content in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise.

  3. ESRI will email you:
    1. Download links for ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro software
    2. License codes that can be distributed to students for their individual use in authorizing ArcMap only.
  4. To authorize ArcMap, students should first register their license code at the following website: http://www.esri.com/landing-pages/software/arcgis/arcgis-desktop-student-trial. Once registered, students can install ArcMap on their computers and enter the code when prompted.

Students:

Use one of the two following methods:

  • If you are enrolled in a course that uses GIS software, ask your instructor to request licenses for you. Your instructor may follow the steps above for Bulk Licenses for Students In a GIS Course.
  • If you are not enrolled in a course that uses GIS software, follow the steps above for Faculty, Staff, and Departments and simply request one license of ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro. Please select a software product that has “student” in its title.
