We kicked off our November 2019 with one of our favorite and most unique events in Broomball! Our members had a great time cooling off on the ice after a long day of participating in the Hack PSU event hosted by Penn State ACM, who also happened to be our opponent!
Kickoff Voltage Law finished their season this November with two close and exciting games, one resulting in a playoff berth, while the other resulting in a loss thus ending the season. Although the season came to an end, IM Sports continue to allow us at IEEE to reach new members that otherwise may not have been involved, which we highly value.
THON “Cancer Sucks” Lollipop Sale
The IEEE THON Committee held its first big fundraiser of the year in Penn State’s Hetzel Union Building, ultimately raising money to aid THON in its fight against pediatric cancer. We at IEEE value THON’s ability to bring the entire Penn State campus together in contributing toward such a noble cause. We encourage all who share this value with us to donate to our THON fund — all donations being contributed directly to THON.
PCB Design & Fabrication Workshop
The IEEE PCB Design and Fabrication workshop, led by Projects Committee member Ethan Tabler, introduced our members to PCB Design using Autodesk EAGLE. Using predesigned and previously ordered boards, members then completed their flashing LED circuit.
At the IEEE November General Body Meeting, we brought our members up to speed with the many future Projects, Outreach events, and THON events. Members received their official IEEE tee-shirts, and enjoyed pizza alongside a fun game of what we like to call, “Pictionar-EE”.
We at IEEE invited our members and their friends to join us in tailgating the Penn State vs. Indiana football game. Members had a great time participating in various activities like bean bag toss, etcetera and simply socializing with fellow members over some food and age-appropriate drinks.
Computer Vision Workshop
We decided to finish our November strong with perhaps our most popularly demanded workshop, Computer Vision workshop. Led by IEEE Penn State President, Fernando Leira, our members were given a look into various neural network facial recognition libraries, and their use in practice.
