Science Insider

What is Science Insider?

Science Insider (SI) is an aptly named group of the Science Policy Society (SPS) which serves to connect students with science policy officials, our “insiders.” By organizing talks from university faculty, scientific society members, government officials, and more, SI aims to expose its members to perspectives on science policy from the individuals who draft, analyze, implement, or challenge those policies. In addition to providing information about typical career fields in science policy and traditional science policy workflows, the SI group also delivers numerous networking opportunities to its members, who have the opportunity to ask questions and partake in discussions with the invited speakers. While the SI group is focused primarily on science policy education and networking, we encourage our members to engage with other groups of SPS, such as the Advocacy Committee or Science on Tap (SoT), where there are opportunities to apply the education gained from SI to other science policy avenues such as advocacy or community outreach.

All meetings this year will be virtual due to the pandemic. We are still looking for presenters and group members for out meetings this year! Regardless of your field of study, occupation, or experience with science policy, we are looking for community members to present current literature regarding policy that has been or can be further impacted or influence by science. If you are interested in being a member and/or presenting, please contact Natalia Grube (ntg5079@psu.edu).
