My name is Victoria Glaude, and I’m a senior majoring in broadcast journalism with a minor in business and the liberal arts. My career goals include becoming a producer and creating my own television show. I graduate in May 2015.
I currently intern at both C-SPAN and 107.3 radio station. I work at C-SPAN 30 hours a week as a programming operations editorial intern. This is a position similar to what I hope to do full-time in the future, because I like the production process of putting everything on air, and that’s what I do at C-SPAN.
As a production assistant, I type up the graphics, including names of all the keynotes speakers during live events to go on-air and, I assist the C-SPAN producers on networks 1, 2 and 3. My other duties involve: Pulling clips to re-air at a later time, pulling shoot sheers and server cut sheets distribute to all three C-SPAN networks, updating the Washington Journal files in the system and then distributing the files to all three networks, and updating information of the people who are on-air pertaining to election debates.
Although I do enjoy this position, it’s a lot of pressure to make sure everything is spelled right and updated immediately in all of the databases. One of the skills I acquired was double-checking everything and asking for another person to review my work before submitting it.
My other internship is on the entertainment side, as an intern producer for the Sarah, Ty, & Mel morning show. On Fridays, I get to the 107.3 station at about 6 a.m., and despite the early hour, I’m excited to be there! I perform various duties while the personalities are on-air such as assisting the producer with logging commercials; keeping an extensive journal of the daily topic discussions, music that’s played and contest giveaways; answering the phones for contestants or callers to go on-air; creating clips as sound bites; updating all of their social media networks and coming up with weekly fun topic discussions.
Despite my busy schedule and various responsibilities, I enjoy all I do!
