Recording your This I Believe essay

You should record your TIB essay in one of the recording or media production rooms on campus.  You can schedule an appointment with Media Commons in several ways, but I recommend doing so early as all 600+ RCL students will be looking to do so in the next few days.

Talk this Friday on the rhetoric of scientific advancement

Here’s the notice for what should be a fascinating talk about how categorization of science as “frontier” or “groundbreaking” frames/shades/constrains how we both conceive of and pursue scientific discovery.

Leah Ceccarelli  –  “On the Frontier of Science: Entailments of Myth and Metaphor”

Let’s get it started…

Welcome back!  If you’re transferring from another section, it’s good to have you with us.  And if you’re returning (or switching from one of my sections to the other) it’ll be great to see you again.

We’ll go over the course when we get together on Tuesday, but for now you may want to take a quick peek at the directions for the This I Believe essay, linked from the assignments page above.  We still have a few weeks, but you’ll also want to begin thinking about blogging for the semester.  You’ll again be keeping a passion blog, although you’re free to change topics if you wish.  You’ll also be writing biweekly about a civic issue of your choice, cleverly titled the civic issues blog.  Check the assignment directions above for more info.

I’ll post it on the relevant tab above, but I also wanted to note here my new office hours (in 245 Sparks) for the semester: MW 11:15-12:15, Th 1:15-2:15, and by appointment at other times.

See you Tuesday!
