TED talk outline

Political correctness: the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

“Political Correctness as a concept is good however it is now used to the extreme and is counter productive to open honest discussion.”

My topic, political correctness, is a great use of kairos as it is very prominent in something very important coming up. The election and Donald Trump pose questions on political correctness as do movements such as Black lives matter.

To start I am going to talk about how I first asked my mom what had changed since she was young and how her views inspired me to look back at a Span of ten years with how words and characteristics changed political correctness.

“People exchanged ideas more openly when I was younger. The resurgence of political correctness led to people limiting what they said out of fear of offending others. This also led I think to this need for people to identify themselves as African American or Asian American rather than just American. I think pc as a concept is good but is now used to the extreme and is counter productive to open honest discussion.” -my mom about differences in life from when she was younger

After this I am going to hit on the election and how it’s candidates have been either using or not using political correctness and the effects of both  (Look at the term -try these first opposing view points)

I’m still developing how exactly I will fully talk about this topic however I have several good talking points and examples and I am actively searching for resources and visual aids.

  • Mom’s POV
  • Election (Donald Trump)
  • Race issues and movements

*Note This topic is tricky as it is very easy to offend people with it and I am going to do everything I can to make this strictly factual with no bias from my personal views.

  1. I think that this is a really good topic to explore. Your outline seems to flow pretty nicely and I think that it will be reflected in your Ted Talk. I’m really interested to see your perspective and how you talk about this topic. I think you have the opportunity to use various different visual aids to enhance your presentation so I’m also interested to see what you decide to use.
