1. Comedy Nights With Kapil: This show is most comparable to Saturday Night Live, with highly celebrated celebrities performing scripted comedic acts along with realtime audience interaction.
2. Bigg Boss: This show was developed from the same concept of Big Brother, where individuals live together, are filmed 24/7, and are constantly trying to remove someone from the house. The show is not as competitive as it’s American counterpart, typically highlighting more of the positive interactions that happen between housemates.
3. MTV Roadies: People are selected to travel from one point in the country to another, but are in constant competition with their road partners. If the lose a competition, they are left at that part of the road trip. They are competing to be the ultimate “Roadie.”
4. Kaun Banega Crorepati: This is a typical quiz show, resembling “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” Each participant has various life lines and is looking to win a cash prize.
5.Dance India Dance: A reality dance show with a cash prize waiting at the end for the winner. The dancers received lessons from famous Bollywood choreographers and then perform a final piece in every show using the style of dance they were taught that week.
6.Indian Idol: American Idol but the Indian version. This is an example of a straight media import, nothing about the show has been except for the language.
7. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa: A dance reality show featuring celebrity Indian couples as the contestants. It is very similar to “Dancing with the Stars” except there is no professional dancer as a counterpart.
8. MTV Splitsvilla: Men and women are randomly coupled together and compete against other couples in a variety of activities in the hopes of being the last couple standing to win a cash prize. There is no romantic element, although sometimes the couples admit they start fall for their counterpart.
9. Khatron Ke Khiladi: This is the Indian version of “Fear Factor.” The contestants must perform difficult tasks in order to stay alive and continue to compete in the show. The show features only Indian celebrities.
10. India’s Got Talent: This is the Indian version of “America’s Got Talent” in which performers of various talents perform in front of judges in the hopes to win a cash prize.
