Reflection for 08/25/14 to 08/29/14

It’s late on Tuesday, and I’m finally on here. I’m giving myself a break because Monday was the beginning of the Fall ’14 semester.

Courses opened well. I’m working with a few instructors to get settled into the semester. It didn’t help that webaccess has been having issues. Hopefully, this gets resolved soon.

I’m encouraged by how the relationship with IT is getting better & better. I’m gaining even more respect for the group that we have here at the College of IST and am looking forward to doing great things together.

My IST 230 course is up & running. I’m now up to 26 enrollments.

It’s Thursday, and I’m back. I’m now up to 30 enrollments. Definitely nice to have the opportunity to ramp up the numbers.

It’s Friday, and I am now up to 32 enrollments. This has exceeded my anticipated projections. I’m looking forward to having a very successful semester.

There were items to clean up today. I had a huge to do list that I have down to two items that are out of my control to complete until next week. This is a good thing, but I’m definitely in full throttle.

I’ve been thinking about my trip to see college friends this weekend. I enjoyed seeing everyone, but I’m a bit discouraged that I wasn’t able to perform better on the run. The main reason was that I was unable to hold to what I’ve been doing for my training. I have not been eating large dinners. But I did there. I also drank a couple of beers and ate ice cream. When I went to kick in during the last mile of the race, I had nothing left. I’m not sure that I want to do this run next year if I am not able to do it like I want. Simeon, Noah, & Micah did awesome in their kid fun runs. Simeon even came in 3rd in his age run.

Simeon and Noah started their 3rd and 1st grade years. It looks like they are excited and going to have another great year.

Reflection for 08/18/14 to 08/22/14

I started this week a day late since I took a vacation day on Monday to take the family to Del Grosso’s. Doing this type of thing the week before courses open can be a bit stressful, especially since many who send me late requests. Luckily, I was enough ahead of the game this summer that it isn’t affecting me. I faintly remember a day when I procrastinated, but at this point in my life both professionally and personally I cannot allow this to happen.

When I got back in the office on Tuesday, I was able to finish a few items regarding the IST Undergrad portfolio.

Thinking about the 230 class that I’ll be teaching in Fall ’14, I am in a good place in terms of preparation. I’m hoping for another great semester 🙂

I was busy on Wednesday, so I didn’t have a chance to reflect. Today, I’m a bit upset about something that happened. I won’t go into detail, but I just want to remember when I look back over this. Crazy stuff…

I am now completely ready to teach my course for Fall ’14 in terms of prep. I only need to focus on helping to students by providing timely and on-point feedback.

The courses that I’m supporting are pretty much a go.

There were more than a few last minute items that came up this year for Fall ’14 roll out. It’s getting harder & harder to manage these changes. Hopeful for a good smooth start on Monday.

I worked with a new faculty today. I will be helping to support her as she begins. I hoping that I can help mentor her to success.

This weekend is the 5K in Landisville. I’m hoping to report more improvement on my time when I write my reflection for next week.

Reflection for 08/11/14 to 08/15/14

I’m starting this early this week to feel a bit better at what I’m doing. I found that last week was a bit overwhelming. I’m hoping that starting and ending the day with some time to reflect will help me.

Saturday, I was still feeling a bit under the weather, so I ended up sleeping around 3 hours in the afternoon. Even with that, I was able to sleep the entire night. I don’t like how much I’ve gotten sick recently, so I decided to get a vitamin supplement to help with my immunity. I’m hoping for the best. I have a physical set up for 9/15.

On Monday, I worked on EA 870. It looks like this course needs some work. I’m hoping that this course is addressed by the faculty before August 25.

I also got a chance to work on my Fall ’14 230 course. I’m hoping that I get more time this week to work on it.

It’s Friday & I’m finally back to finish this up. I have gotten time to work on my 230 course. I’m up to 20 students currently which is only two more than last week. It looks like things are starting to settle down. We’ll see if things change much next week.

It looks like we may be hiring an IPS which is a good thing. I’m hoping that this addition will help the ID’s to get things settle down a bit. We are currently wearing so many hats that it’s difficult to do everything well. If we push to more MPS programs like Pete is talking about, we need to have our feet under us.

I did my last run before the Amos Herr Run. It felt fine, but I’m not at the place that I’d like to be. I’m hoping this has everything to do with being busy & tired from all of the business.

Reflection for 08/04/14 to 08/08/14

It’s Thursday, and I’m finally starting this.

Vacation was good, but the driving was very bad. I’m not sure if I want to go again to OBX b/c of it. If I do, I’ll drive over night. It’s didn’t work to break the drive up since we were still driving in prime time.

Since I’ve been back in the office, it’s been hectic. I’m hoping that things slow down a bit next week.

The big highlights are that the BB Pilot is cancelled for Fall ’14. I’m relieved. I’m not sure if I’ll do a pilot in the future. There are so many unknowns, and I don’t think that I’m the type of instructor who can pull off a good experience for the students, especially if the learning environment is not intuitive.

I had a chance to finally work on my Fall ’14 course. As of now, I have 18 students. I’m guessing that within the next two weeks that I’ll be around 25. I’m excited about the opportunity to teach the course again!
