Teaching Philosophy

“Education builds National Character” is a belief that I carry throughout my educational career, both as a learner and an educator.  When we start brainstorming to define the role and the values of education in civilization, the literature from the ancient times to the modern world suggests that education is an instrument and a center point of the development of human civilization. Education instills the values and ethics for life into individuals character for change and ultimately for progress of human kind.

My working tenure as an agricultural educator in a not for profit organization broadened my horizon of thinking and understanding of social communication and interaction. The continuous interaction, learning from application of knowledge, provided me a great opportunity to understand various teaching style, though some of interaction methods were completely new to me. The personal decision and the desire for higher education inspired me to move to a society, which is culturally very different from my origin.

My educational philosophy to some extent inspired by Pragmatism philosophy: a real world problem-solving approach. The self-evaluation using Philosophy of Adult Education Inventory (PAEI), my philosophy on adult education came out as Progressing Adult Education, where the role of teacher/educator can be defined as an organizer, a supporter of learning through experience, and an evaluator. The definition and expectations from education have changed overtime but focus remains the same, whether it is character building or citizenship development.

My philosophy on education is that it guides individuals in a path where he or she is more capable of taking the better decision. Decision making ability is the greatest gift ever from education to the individual character. My educational philosophy to some extent inspired by Pragmatism philosophy: a real world problem-solving approach.
