Incoming freshman Connor Cassidy made news recently due to his part in the inaugural Atlantis u19 tour to Las Vegas success and his transition to captain and MVP of the Malvern Prep 7’s team which placed second in the National High School Rugby Challenge. Thus exciting his future coach, Chris Amoritas who had this to say about him, “I am excited to have Connor coming to Penn State next month. Connor comes to us with a long rugby pedigree and his recent work with Atlantis speaks well of him.” Cassidy will look to make an impact on the squad as training camp for the 2014 season opens up August 16th. In other news, the Elite City 7’s competition in Houston this summer featured two Penn State 7’s players: Ben Janssen ’14 and Selby Niumataiwalu ’17 playing for Philadelphia. The tournament hosted the top 12 rugby cities across the country and featured the likes of former eagles Andrew Durutalo, Mike Teo, Peter Tiberio, Mike Palefau just to name a few. Philadelphia finished 4th losing to 7’s superstar Waisale Serevi’s Seattle team in pool play.
