Penn State – MSW

Penn State York is eager to share its resources with secondary schools in York County to stimulate students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers. Through our Mobile Science Workshops program, faculty from Penn State York, lead interactive experiments in biology, chemistry, and physics engaging students in physical demonstrations of scientific concepts such as molecular structure, pasteurization and thermodynamics.

  • Workshops take place in your school classroom or lab
  • Engage 20-30 students in up to three workshops.
  • Penn State York supplies all of the experiment materials and safety equipment.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate available class time and number of students.
  • Faculty provide a short overview of the concepts; majority of the workshop is having students perform the experiments.
  • Students learn about the degree programs available at Penn State and can take home a PSU souvenir which they have prepared themselves in one of the experiments.

Penn State Mobile Science Workshops are designed to address PA standards for high school biology, chemistry, and physics including:

  • Biology 3.1.A – Organisms and Cells
  • Chemistry 3.2.10.A2 – Bonding
  • Chemistry 3.2.10.A4 – Chemical reactions and atomic arrangement
  • Physics 3.2.10.B2 – Conservation of energy
  • Physics 3.2.12.B3 – Kinetic energy, temperature and phase changes
