Brain-Related Injuries Due to Football

Yes, we all know about the sport of football and it’s popularity. But, do we know how bad it can be for one to make head-to-head contact. I played football for eight years of my life and I have seen concussions really affect people. One of my friends got hit so hard in the head that he ran off the field to the opposing team’s sideline! The coach had to tell him he was on the wrong side! Now, the sport of football should never go away. Many parents are not signing their kids up for football anymore due to the movie that came out called Concussion. I watched this film with my friends and as much as it shows hatred for the game, it serves a better purpose. The reason for the film is that players have to be more aware of the game they are playing.

What must we do?

There is more than just an issue in players. There is a serious problem in the coaching. Youth football is taught by fathers, and from experience, many dad’s can go way overboard with what they say and do to their athletes. Many youth football players have no idea what they are doing. It is essential that we teach them proper form and technique before they enter the field of play. I believe that every coach must become “Heads Up” certified before they can be eligible to coach football, even fathers.

I believe that this is a huge issue in today’s society. People are leaving the game before even learning how they can prevent such injuries. If individuals were more aware of the game and it’s possible effects, they would play knowing not to make head-to-head contact. The sport can not diminish from society, it must be learned about more.

Football is definitely going to change because of all these new findings and its a shame because it is such a great sport. Hopefully they can find ways to prevent players from getting CTE. My mom is not letting my brother play, another showing of how this sport could go downhill if new protective measures aren’t taken and discovered.
