Last Friday, I had my real time chat. Through the ten to fifteen minutes I was there, we talked about a lot of things. Mostly though it was what I want to do in life. Why am I going to Penn State? What do I want to Do? How am I going to do that? I know that four years is a while away but I know that time is going to go fast. I learned that I will have to make connections, in order to do what I want. What I want to do is go into broadcast journalism. Specifically I want to get into sports, whether it be an analyst, interviewer, or commentator. That is what I want to do. In order to do that, I will have to make connections and meet the right people. Professor Nichols was able to give me some insight, and give me some tips as well. Also I got some tips on balancing principles with schoolwork and coaching football.
I have always had a heavy interest in sports. Mainly in football. My dream job would be doing radio commentary for my favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. The reason I want to go into the sports journalism field is because of legendary Steelers broadcaster Myron Cope. My Dad, would mute the television and put on the radio during Steeler games in order to listen to Myron because he was so good. He had his famous catchphrases and an unmistakable voice. Though, doing anything in sports journalism would be a dream come true. So in order to do that, I have to buckle down and be able to balance the work and school. As I go through Penn State I will have to take hold of the opportunities as well. Like making the connections with people already in the business. Also another would be using the facilities at Penn State. I should get involved with the campus radio station too. Hopefully during my time here, I will be able to do that. Though in order to do that I have to remember what I was told during the chat, make sure you make the proper connections and focus on hard work. As I wrap up I’ll leave you with a video of Myron Cope and some of his memorable moments. Click here
