Flash: The Fastest

When people think about super powers, some of the ones that come to mind are flying, super strength, mind reading. One of the most common ones that people say is super speed, which is precisely what the Flash is famous for. Besides being the star of two live action shows, a multitude of animated movies and shows, he will be staring in the upcoming movie Justice League which will put him alongside the other founding members of the Justice League.

The Flash is iconic for his super speed, which has caused Barry Allen to become the crime fighting defender of Central City. By day, Barry Allen is a forensic investigator that was struck by lightning into a combination of chemicals that somehow connect him to the speed force, which gives him his powers. Somehow.  His super speed powers are rather normal. He can move much, much faster than a speeding bullet. He can make twisters by rotating his hands fast enough, build up enough momentum to create electricity, and has even ran so fast that he has travelled through time!

His costume is iconic, the red with the yellow lightning bolt across his chest. Barry Allen is the optimist of the Justice League and he shows it through his joking, sunny outlook on the rest of the world. He is always looking at the best in people, even his villains.

The Flash’s villains have been given the moniker of “The Rogues”, and they are about as colorful as a group as you could imagine. They include villains such as Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Toyman, and Weather Wizard. Unlike most super villains, The Rogues are incredibly loyal to each other and have a kind of odd respect for the Flash. They primarily rob banks and just steal money, and they do not kill people. Another notable strange villain is Gorilla Grodd, who happens to be a giant, telepathic, intelligent Gorilla bent on enslaving mankind. There are also a couple of evil speedsters that are hell bent on ending the scarlet speedsters life. Reverse Flash, Savitar, Zoom, Johnny Quick, and Black Flash are all different from each other in separate ways but they all can agree on their hate of Barry Allen and the Flash.

One unique aspect of the Flash is that there has been many different people who held the mantle of the Flash. Jay Garrick was the first, he was the original who was created in the forties. Then there was a younger Flash named Wally West, who was introduced in the nineties when Barry Allen was dead for a period of time. The most famous is of course Barry Allen, who most people associate with the title of Flash.

I have always personally enjoyed the Flash, because of his charisma and charm. He wasn’t some stoic, silent defender, or a boy scout goody two shoes. He was just a normal guy that was granted with godly abilities, and although he went through some trauma, he always tries to do the right thing. Ultimately he is a good man just trying to help his city out.

  1. Reading your blog is always entertaining to me because it reminds me of comics that I used to read throughout my childhood. The Flash is definitely one of my favorite superheroes from the DC universe. I love his charisma and humor. My favorite superheroes tend to be the jokesters. One of my favorite Flash moments actually occurred in Smallville which was a tv show that aired on the CW and followed the youth of Clark Kent, aka Superman. Though Smallville did not follow the traditional Barry Allen story, it was still very interesting and happens to be one of my favorite episodes. The Flash was also in his youth and was actually using his powers to steal. Being faster than the speed of light is a pretty good advantage when trying to engage in theft. Clark attempts to catch him but Flash consistently gets away because he is faster. Eventually at the end of the episode they end up becoming friends and flash stops stealing but the last scene is a race between Superman and Flash and Flash is by far the winner. Overall this was a very entertaining post and I enjoyed reading it!
