Fixings for Thanksgiving Club Challenge

The Sustainovation Club teamed up with the MARCOMM Club to challenge students clubs across the campus to help Media Food Bank provide a full Thanksgiving meal to families in our region. Media Food Bank receives plenty of turkey donations, but not enough of the “fixings” to go along with the turkey. We were asked to provide specific food items, and we turned their wish list into a Fixings for Thanksgiving Club Challenge.

Each club selected a different food item to collect and donate. The Office of Student Affairs generously offered to contribute $200 to the club that collected the most items. Even faculty and staff decided to join in on the fun!

At the end of the collection drive, we donated 418 food items to Media Food Bank. But before we dropped the items off, we created our first campus “Canstruction” castle of the food as a warm-up to our spring participation in the Canstruction U competition at Brandywine.

We thank the following clubs for their participation and contributions: Rainbow Alliance (stuffing), Phi Beta Lambda (stuffing), B.E.A.S.T. (gravy), THON (rice), Nittany Christian Fellowship (rice), Lion’s Eye (canned pie filling), Blue and White Society (salad dressing), Lion Ambassadors (salt & pepper), Sustainovation (cranberry sauce) and MARCOMM (pie shells). Faculty contributed instant boxed potatoes, while staff donated applesauce.
