All websites on studentaffairs.psu.edu are in a degraded state and experiencing slowness affecting logins and page loading. IT staff are investigating. Since the sites are slow but functional, we will postpone any server restarts until 5pm. We will update as we learn new information or remedy the issue.
To all Student Affairs staff:
Between Saturday, July 11, 2015 9am – Sunday, July 12, 2015 5pm, web services on SAS4 and SAS3080 will be intermittently down in order to upgrade from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012. This large maintenance window is necessary to complete a major project. You will see from the list below that Student Affairs has many websites and most listed are configured with databases.
The reason for this maintenance window is that Windows Server 2003 is rapidly approaching End of Life (July 15, 2015), and Student Affairs IT personnel have been working fervently to prepare for the upgrade of the affected systems.

To all Student Affairs staff:
From 8am-5pm on December 29-30, networking services in Boucke, HUB-Robeson Center and the Bank of America Career Services will be intermittently down in order to replace networking equipment. Nine 48-port switches will be installed to replaced out-of-warranty, end-of-life equipment. These installations are expected to be finished by December 30, with December 31 as an optional day if issues are encountered.
Also, during this timeframe, SAIT will be performing server maintenance which will involve approximately 150 servers. These servers will not impact email services (UCS) since that service is handled by ITS. Depending on complexity of the maintenance, this service window may extend itself into if not through December 31st. SAIT will test for connectivity after the work is completed. There are systems we cannot test beyond ensuring connection success:
- Point and Click
Users of these specific systems will be able to test beyond connectivity when they return to work or remotely. Problems should be reported to email@example.com.
During the planned outage, we will share updates on our blog at: http://studentaffairsblogs.psu.edu/technology/
As always, if you have questions or concerns relating to this plan, please contact our Service Desk.
- email at firstname.lastname@example.org
- phone at 814-865-7210
At 10:30pm, all data has been transferred and all services restored. Please contact the SAIT Service Desk if you encounter any issues by emailing email@example.com or calling 814-865-7210.
Staff have finished moving the physical hardware to the Colocation Center and continue to migrate the File Server data. All other data has been migrated.

For CAPS staff:
FourWinds software was upgraded from 126.96.36.1990 to 188.8.131.525 yesterday afternoon. New features include:
- Added the GetDataUrl service to retrieve the page for passed data.
- An enhancement to Hosted connection to connect to multiple back-end databases.
- Content Store credentials can be saved in Content Manager for easier uploads.
- A new script command that enables pagination of objects in other regions.
- A new script command that enables users to go back/forward on HTML pages.
- A new interactive script to directly initiate templates to play.
We will be upgrading the FourWinds software on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 3pm. Upgrading is a 3-step process that we will do for you.
1. Upgrade the Signage Network database. This takes about 5 minutes.
2. Upgrade the Content Manager client software. This is the software you use to manage and schedule the content from your desktop. We will push this software and it will take between 5 minutes to 2 hours.
3. Upgrade the Content Player software. This is the software on the signage players. This is the computer actually running your content that is directly connected to the large screen monitor. We have not upgraded this software yet, but the vendor assures us that it only take 5-10 minutes for each player.
We fully expect that we won’t have any issues, but we are asking to see whether you can “deploy” any content before Friday for this weekend…..just in case.
Please let us know if this presents a problem….otherwise, we will begin the upgrade process at 3pm on Thursday. The software upgrade does not require a reboot, so you probably won’t even know when it is done. Please share this with your other signage colleagues.
We will post this maintenance upgrade and an update to our blog athttp://studentaffairsblogs.psu.edu/technology
