Yousra writes, “A Graphic Design Sophomore in VCUQatar. I have been a peer tutor for almost a year now and I must confess, its impact on me has been far deeper than anything I could have ever imagined. The change it triggers is not just physical or emotional but rather psychological. To us the theme, “The Inclusive Writing Center,” was just as confusing as it was intriguing. It was, hence, the process of identifying and understanding the finer details of theme that inspired the poster. We wanted to create a simplified info-graphic that could convey the important beliefs of an inclusive writing center, while still being fun and interactive. The most important decision we made was that there would be no scoring, no judgment. We wanted it to simply be a tool for self-reflection and to inspire personal growth. To convert the grander idea into a series of more relatable questions and hope that this would encourage peer tutors to partake in a deeper discussion about our role and its impact.”

Asma writes, “Currently a Graphic Design Junior in VCUQatar, I also work part time as part of the university’s Writing Center team. I have been peer tutoring for around a year now and the experience has been a series of more ups than downs. The concept for this poster was a response to the theme, “The Inclusive Writing Center,” while the content and questions were inspired from our own experiences. We wanted to create a fun, interactive tool that tutors like ourselves could use to evaluate themselves. The main aim of our project was to simply evoke questions and conversations about what it means to be an inclusive writing center, and how to become one.”
