As the fall semester comes to an end, Penn State Abington likes to recognizes its students who stand out by showing enthusiasm and are active on campus Kellina Djanfa Wanteu is one of those students.
Kellina is a sophomore who’s studying journalism and minoring in business. She is originally from Cameroon, but lives in Maryland.
When asked about the Student Philanthropy Council that she is a part of, Kellina expressed that she didn’t start it. It was implemented by the development office.
“I decided to take on a leadership role because I was very fond of my work at the development office. Working closely with alumni and learning about fundraising made me realize that I have a passion for giving back. I have had a lot of volunteer experiences prior to attending college and I wanted to keep going in that route, so I decided that Philanthropy Council was the best way to engage myself into volunteering.”
The group consists of about 15 members who focus on building a relationship between alumni and students and raising money to help students on campus in any way possible. Kellina expressed that their goal is to cultivate a sense of altruism on campus and that as a Penn Stater, students should want to establish a long-lasting relationship with other students even after they graduate, which is why they are starting now.
Aside from her role in the Student Philanthropy Council, Kellina has goals for her future. “My goal is to make an impact on people through acts of kindness. Career wise, I wish to become a reporter or a TV show host. I have always been interested in becoming a TV personality and I’m loving the fact that I am pursuing my passion in college.”
