August Alsina is the newest up and coming R&B sensation who is coming from New Orleans, Louisiana. August has been on the mainstream scene for over a year now beginning with the success of his mixtape Downtown: Life Under The Gun 2, and recent album release Testimony. At only 22 years old August has been on tour with several stars with an upcoming tour underlining Usher after finishing up his own tour. August’s R&B style is more to the new generations sound as it is a bit more “Thug” reminiscent as he croons about violence, women, and drugs among other commonalities of music. His biggest hit thus far “I Love This $h*t” has catapulted him into the mainstream media, and he followed this success with songs like “Make It Home” ft. Young Jeezy and “Kissin On My Tattoos.” Mr. Alsina’s style has made him popular with the ladies of course but he has gained respect from male fans alike. His rising popularity has brought him much success and recognition in the music world and even winning him a BET Award this summer. During this same show he was able to perform the remix to his hit “I Love This $h*t” with two other big R&B stars Trey Songz and Chris Brown easily making his set one of the most memorable of the night.
His success has recently been derailed with health issues as he just awoke out of a coma staying in the hospital for two weeks. During a performance August collapsed on stage and suffered a head injury which is believed to have spawned the coma. Doctors prescribe a lot of rest as the collapse is likely from all of the stress he has been putting his body through with non-stop touring, press, and recording. August says he is ready to tour again after just a few days from being released, that type of hustle is something one must admire but it is concerning as fans would hate to see him back in the hospital. To the surprise of many and maybe Alsina, Nicki Minaj a recent collaborator on the single “No Love” visited him in the hospital. The song has been blowing the clubs up, creating an even bigger buzz. The song and video shows the chemistry between the pair as the song makes for a good sound and a detailed video brings it to life. At the end of the day, best wishes go out to August and his fans hope he can get better and continue making great music.
