Imagine being able to get to your class without ever having to go outside. Pennsylvania experiences brutal winters and, this one is no different according to weatherman Matthew Holliday. “Regions more to the south and along the coast may feel the effects of heavier snowfall and brutally cold air. The Great Lakes region will be brutally cold” (Matthew Holliday).

Snow and other conditions like rain and hail, cause an increase of difficulty in getting from place to place. Vehicles have to reduce their speed and be more cautious, while bikers sometimes cannot bike, and pedestrians must bundle up and trek through. According to my study, pedestrians’ habits change from walking to taking the bus or not going outside in poor weather conditions. Here at The Pennsylvania State University, the students pursue a higher education from a renowned faculty and state-of-the-art facilities. Weather cannot get in the way from stopping students from getting to class or professors from teaching. This has always been important, but unfortunately no solution has been proposed. Some may say figuring out a new safe way to get around campus will be expensive, but repurposing the tunnels under campus is a less costly and innovative way to solve this issue.

Now some may say, “Why wouldn’t I want to go outside on such a beautiful day?” Mother Nature is not always filled with sun rays and different conditions can make one uneasy about stepping outdoors. These conditions change habits and may result in bad decisions like not going to class at all. This is a problem and while it may be the students’ and even faculty’s responsibility, it is in the University’s best interest to make it as easy as possible for transportation.
