Do you think it is appropriate to differentiate learners by their domestic or heritage background?

I: so tell me a little bit about um the relationships among the students in this course among the domestic and heritage language learners let me preface that with the question do you think that’s uh an appropriate way to view learner the learners in your classroom

S: I do because there’s definitely a difference between teaching heritage learner and teaching a domestic learner um I find that they don’t they they speak very well and they know the vocab but it when it comes down to the nitty gritty grammar they don’t really have a very strong focus and I think that’s why they’re so focused on grammar and not really the extent uh expansion of the vocab uh the vocabulary that we have um but I definitely think that it really influences the environment that we’re learning in very much

Reflections – How would you characterize the learning environment in your classroom? Would you say that domestic and heritage students affect this environment differently? How so?
