Penn State Visits Latin America

My name is JoAnn Shore and I’m a Penn State admissions counselor who recruits academically both domestically and internationally.    I am an alumna of Penn State and I love spreading the word about my Alma mater.

It’s hard to believe that I will be leaving in just a few days to begin my recruitment trip to Latin America.  You can find out where I will be and on what days here:  http://admissions.psu.edu/pennstate/visitsyou/international/.

This will be the fifth time that I have taken this Council of International Schools (CIS) trip.  I always worry that I will get everything done in time and remember to pack everything but I have always been successful.

I really look forward to this trip.  In many ways, it is the highlight of my professional year.  The students that I meet are my favorite part; it is my privilege to talk about Penn State and share how fabulous it is to attend school here.  There is so much going on each and every day at all of the Penn State’s campuses and the education students receive is superior.  With over 1,200 clubs and organizations, there is something for everyone.

I am so pleased when one of the students that I have worked with actually enrolls here and we remain in touch.  Some of those students have told me that it gives them a sense of security knowing that they can contact me here when their families are thousands of miles away.   They attend my tailgates on Saturday before the home football games and meet me for a frozen treat in downtown State College.

I have met many wonderful students and their families on these trips.  When I go to their countries, I sometimes have dinner with their families in my spare time.  It is my good fortune to have many friends that live in Latin America.  This includes current students, alumni, and high school guidance counselors from the schools that I visit.

It’s almost time to begin my next adventure and add to my list of friends.  I can’t wait!!  See you in Latin America!

GO PENN STATE!

JoAnn
