Ahhh … summer in State College. It might have been a little more summer than you like it for move-in (hello 90s!), but welcome to University Park, Class of 2017! There are about 2,000 of you ready to embark on your Penn State journey with classes starting this Wednesday for the summer session, and we are excited to finally have you on campus.
With orientation already under your belts, classes scheduled, and moving done, now it is time to relax a little and get excited to start exploring campus – and learn a little bit about the other first-year students studying with you this summer.
In summer session alone, there are students from almost 30 states, as well as approximately 100 international students. Almost one third of you are in the Division of Undergraduate Studies, but there are students from every academic college in summer session. And, our LEAP prides are full, giving students yet another way to make University Park a smaller place with the help of mentors and coordinated classes.
When you’re not in class, be sure to take a dip in the Natatorium pool, check out a State College Spikes baseball game, and watch one of the largest fireworks displays in the country during Central Pennsylvania 4th Fest. Many of your fellow students and Penn State alumni will be back in town for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in mid-July.
Whether you are in LEAP, are from a faraway state or an even farther country, or you are studying nursing or political science or geography, welcome to Penn State and enjoy your first week on campus!
